The MB850 provides 9 total outlets: 5 battery-powered and surge-protected rear outlets for equipment that must remain on during a power disruption, and 4 always-on surge-protected outlets for equipment that does not require battery backup. This split configuration allows integrators and end users to prioritize limited battery capacity toward the equipment that matters most — a lamp-based projector that needs to complete its cool-down cycle, a DVR recording in progress, or an AV processor that takes significant time to reboot — while still providing surge protection to secondary gear like subwoofers, power amplifiers, or playback sources.

Automatic Voltage Regulation (AVR) stabilizes the incoming AC voltage to an appropriate level for optimal equipment performance, eliminating the effects of brownouts and overvoltages on connected gear. During brownout conditions where utility voltage drops but does not fail completely, the AVR circuit boosts voltage back to the correct output level so equipment continues to operate without switching to battery mode.
