Product Overview

The Neumann KH 810 II is a DSP-controlled active studio subwoofer built for professional recording, mixing, mastering, and post-production environments. It extends low-frequency reproduction to 16 Hz using a long-throw 10" ELFF driver and delivers approximately twice the maximum SPL of the KH 750 DSP, making it a proper bass extension partner for mid-sized monitors such as the KH 150 and KH 310. Analog XLR and Sub-D25 I/O, plus seven AES3 BNC digital outputs, provide flexible connectivity to up to 11 studio monitors in stereo, surround, or immersive configurations up to 7.1.4. MA 1 Automatic Monitor Alignment integration (sold separately) enables full-system room correction and FIR phase linearization for connected analog KH-line monitors.

Product Description

The KH 810 II is the analog/AES3 variant of Neumann's flagship 10" studio subwoofer platform. It uses the same internal DSP engine, woofer design, and bass management architecture as the AES67 network audio version, without the network audio input hardware. This makes it the correct choice for studios that route audio over traditional analog or AES3 infrastructure and do not require Audio over IP.

The internal DSP operates at 32-bit audio with 64-bit double-precision processing. A 4th-order 24 dB/octave crossover at 80 Hz handles bass management for systems from stereo through 7.1.4, distributing high-pass filtered signals to connected monitors while the subwoofer handles the LFE and redirected bass content. Two analog XLR inputs and outputs handle stereo connections. For multichannel operation, two Sub-D25 connectors accept up to 12 analog input channels and two additional Sub-D25 connectors distribute up to 11 analog output channels (Tascam pinout). Seven BNC connectors provide AES3 digital outputs to connected studio monitors with 24-bit, 48 kHz conversion; a daisy-chain BNC input allows cascading additional subwoofers in large-format configurations.

The 265 mm (10") ELFF long-throw woofer maintains low harmonic distortion at full excursion, achieving 109 dB maximum SPL at 1 m in half space (115 dB corner-loaded). The 180 W woofer amplifier is a high-efficiency design with soft-clip, excursion, and thermal protection limiters. The cabinet is constructed from ultra-stiff wood with an aluminum electronics panel, finished in metallic anthracite (RAL 7021) with integrated rubber feet for floor decoupling.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Which Neumann monitors pair best with the KH 810 II?

The KH 810 II is designed to extend mid-sized Neumann KH-line monitors. Recommended pairings include the KH 150, KH 310 A, and KH 420. The subwoofer's internal DSP provides sufficient processing power to manage full MA 1 room correction for the subwoofer and all connected analog monitors in a system up to 7.1.4, when used with MA 1 Multichannel Extension (sold separately).

Q: What is the difference between the KH 810 II and the KH 810 II AES67?

Both units share the same 10" ELFF woofer, 180 W amplifier, DSP engine, bass management, and acoustic performance specifications. The KH 810 II uses analog (XLR, Sub-D25) and AES3 (BNC) I/O only. The KH 810 II AES67 adds two redundant Fast Ethernet RJ-45 ports for AES67 network audio input (up to 12 channels), SMPTE ST 2110-30 and RAVENNA compliance, and NMOS IS-04/IS-05 connection management. If your studio does not route audio over an IP network, the KH 810 II at $3,899 is the correct choice.

Q: Does the KH 810 II work with MA 1 Automatic Monitor Alignment?

Yes. The KH 810 II includes an Ethernet control port used exclusively by the MA 1 software for room correction and system alignment. MA 1 corrects the frequency response and phase of both the subwoofer and any analog KH-line monitors connected to its outputs, and applies FIR phase linearization to those monitors. MA 1 is sold separately; the Multichannel Extension license is required for systems beyond stereo.

Q: How many studio monitors can the KH 810 II drive?

Up to 11 studio monitors can be connected simultaneously: 2 via XLR analog outputs (stereo), up to 9 via the two Sub-D25 analog output connectors (Tascam pinout), and up to 11 via the 7x BNC AES3 digital outputs. The AES3 BNC outputs are also compatible with Neumann monitors that have S/P-DIF inputs using a BNC-to-RCA cable.

Q: Can multiple KH 810 II subwoofers be daisy-chained?

Yes. The single BNC daisy-chain digital input allows cascading an additional subwoofer to extend the system further. All 12 analog input channels pass through the internal processing and are available for distribution to the connected monitor array.

Q: What placement options does the KH 810 II support?

The KH 810 II is designed for floor placement. SPL increases with boundary reinforcement: 109 dB on the floor in free space, 112 dB against a wall, and 115 dB in a corner. The front-ported bass reflex design keeps port noise inaudible regardless of placement. Precise time-of-flight delay compensation (0–115 ms, 0.71 mm resolution) compensates for any physical offset between the subwoofer and satellite monitors.

Q: What warranty and support are included?

Neumann products purchased through authorized dealers include the standard Neumann manufacturer warranty (typically 2 years in the US — verify current terms at neumann.com/warranty). Creation Networks is an authorized Neumann dealer. For pre-sales and technical questions, contact our team directly or visit Neumann's support portal at help.neumann.com.
