Netgear XS512EM-100NAS – 12-Port 10G/Multi-Gig Web Managed Plus Switch is backordered and will ship as soon as it is back in stock.
What is the Netgear XS512EM 10G Multi-Gigabit switch?
The Netgear XS512EM is a 12-port 10-Gigabit/Multi-Gigabit Plus switch with two SFP+ combo ports, built for small and mid-size business networks that need 10G links without a fully managed switch. Every copper port runs at 10G, 5G, 2.5G, 1G or 100M, so it matches the speed of each connected device over the existing cabling. It mounts in a rack or sits on a desk, making it a practical 10G switch for edit suites, server closets and AV equipment rooms.

How does the Netgear XS512EM work?
The XS512EM provides ten dedicated 10G/Multi-Gig RJ-45 ports plus two combo ports. Each combo port can be used either as a 10G/Multi-Gig copper port or as an SFP+ slot for a fiber or copper transceiver, so you can uplink to a 10G core or aggregation switch over fiber. With 240 Gbps of bandwidth and a 178.6 Mpps forwarding rate, it switches all ports at line rate.
Netgear lists Layer 2 controls on the XS512EM including 802.1Q VLANs (64), port and 802.1p prioritization, DSCP-based QoS, ingress and egress rate limiting, LACP link aggregation and IGMP snooping with unknown-multicast blocking. Note that the IGMP snooping querier is not supported, so an AV-over-IP or Dante multicast network needs a querier elsewhere, such as an M4350-8X8F fully managed AV switch.
Two active fans keep the switch quiet, with Netgear measuring 29.13 dB at idle. For fiber uplinks, pair it with a Netgear AXM761 10GBASE-SR SFP+ module.
What are the key features of the Netgear XS512EM?
- 12 x 10G/Multi-Gig copper ports — each port negotiates 10G, 5G, 2.5G, 1G or 100M to suit the device and cable.
- Two SFP+ combo ports — use fiber or copper transceivers for 10G uplinks to core or aggregation switches.
- 240 Gbps bandwidth — non-blocking switching with a 178.6 Mpps forwarding rate.
- VLANs and QoS — 802.1Q VLANs, 802.1p and DSCP prioritization, and ingress/egress rate limiting.
- IGMP snooping — v1/v2/v3 snooping with unknown-multicast blocking for more efficient multicast delivery.
- Link aggregation — static LAG and LACP for added bandwidth or redundant links.
- Quiet operation — two active fans at 29.13 dB idle, suited to offices and control rooms.
- Rack or desktop — rackmount kit included for 19-inch rack installation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the XS512EM run Dante or AV-over-IP traffic?
It supports VLANs, QoS and IGMP snooping, but not an IGMP querier. For multicast AV-over-IP, provide a querier on another switch or use a fully managed AV switch. Our engineers can confirm the right design.
Will it work with my existing Cat5e or Cat6 cabling?
Yes. Each copper port negotiates 10G, 5G, 2.5G, 1G or 100M, so devices connect at the best speed the cable and endpoint support.
Is there a 24-port version?
Yes, the Netgear XS724EM offers 24 10G/Multi-Gig ports in the same family.
Can it be rack mounted?
Yes. A rackmount kit is included, and the switch can also sit on a desktop.
