Product Overview

The NETGEAR GS516PP is a 16-port Gigabit Ethernet unmanaged switch with full 16-port 802.3at PoE+ support and a 260W total power budget. It delivers high-power PoE to access points, cameras, and VoIP endpoints across mid-sized commercial AV installations with no configuration required. The metal chassis supports desktop or rack mounting and provides 32 Gbps of non-blocking switching. It suits conference rooms, training rooms, and house of worship spaces.

Product Description

The GS516PP 16-port Gigabit PoE+ unmanaged switch lets integrators power a dense set of edge devices from one plug-and-play unit. All 16 Gigabit ports support 802.3at PoE+ at up to 30W per port, drawing from a shared 260W budget that can supply a full complement of access points, IP cameras, and VoIP phones. NETGEAR's PoE power auto-balance technology allocates power according to each device's real demand rather than its detected class. Auto-negotiation and Auto-MDI/MDIX mean no crossover cables and no manual port configuration.

The rugged metal chassis is desktop or rack-mountable with the included kit and uses two fans for cooling under PoE load. With 32 Gbps of non-blocking fabric, an 8K MAC address table, and 802.1p and DSCP QoS, it forwards and prioritizes AV, voice, and data traffic at wire speed. Energy Efficient Ethernet (IEEE 802.3az), auto power-down, and short-cable detection trim idle consumption. As an unmanaged device, it begins powering and forwarding traffic as soon as it is connected, and it standardizes well with the broader NETGEAR switch collection for layered deployments. The 260W budget makes it a practical choice for consolidating powered endpoints in a single room or rack.

Key Features

  • 16 PoE+ Ports (802.3at) — Delivers up to 30W per port to access points, cameras, and VoIP endpoints.
  • 260W Total PoE Budget — Powers a full set of edge devices from a single switch.
  • 32 Gbps Non-Blocking Fabric — Wire-speed switching across all 16 ports.
  • PoE Power Auto-Balance — Allocates power dynamically based on real device demand.
  • 802.1p and DSCP QoS — Prioritizes voice and video traffic on the network.
  • Desktop or Rack-Mountable — Flexible placement in a durable metal chassis with dual-fan cooling.
  • Plug-and-Play Setup — No configuration required; powers and forwards on power-up.
  • Energy Efficient Ethernet — IEEE 802.3az, auto power-down, and short-cable detection reduce idle draw.

Typical Applications

  • Conference rooms powering ceiling access points, cameras, and PoE displays from one switch
  • Training rooms distributing PoE to multiple wireless and camera endpoints
  • House of worship installations powering cameras and wireless coverage across a large hall
  • Commercial meeting spaces consolidating powered AV endpoints on a single device
  • Multi-purpose rooms requiring flexible PoE for reconfigurable AV layouts

Frequently Asked Questions

How many ports supply PoE?
All 16 Gigabit ports supply 802.3at PoE+ at up to 30W each, drawing from a shared 260W budget.

Is the GS516PP managed?
No. It is a fully unmanaged plug-and-play switch. It powers PoE devices and forwards traffic as soon as it is connected, with no VLANs or GUI to configure.

Can it power a full room of access points and cameras?
Within the 260W budget, yes. Each port supplies up to 30W, but the combined draw across all powered ports must stay within 260W, so plan device counts against that total.

Does it support AV-over-IP multicast filtering?
It forwards multicast at wire speed but, being unmanaged, does not provide IGMP snooping. Multicast-intensive AV-over-IP designs that need filtering should use a managed switch at that layer.

How is it cooled and mounted?
The switch uses two internal fans for cooling under PoE load and ships with a rack-mount kit for a standard 19-inch rack; it can also sit on a desktop.

What warranty and support are included?
The GS516PP carries a NETGEAR Limited Lifetime hardware warranty with 90 days of free technical support, and extended Sprint and Drive support plans are available.
