Product Overview

The NETGEAR M4500-32C (CSM4532-100NAS) is a data-center-class 100G managed switch built to serve as the core of large-scale AV-over-IP deployments. With 32 QSFP28 ports configurable for 40G, 50G, or 100G, this 100G AV core switch aggregates hundreds of encoders and decoders onto a single high-bandwidth fabric. It is SDVoE certified and uses NETGEAR IGMP Plus to deliver Layer-2 multicast for AV distribution without the complexity of PIM routing. For broadcast, live production, and large-venue integrators, it replaces costly hardware matrix switches with scalable 100G Ethernet.

Product Description

The M4500-32C is a 1U rack-mount spine switch engineered for the bandwidth demands of uncompressed video transport and high-density AV-over-IP networks. All 32 QSFP28 ports ship preconfigured for 100G and accept 40G QSFP+ and 50G QSFP28 optics or DAC cables, giving integrators flexibility to mix link speeds across a single chassis. NETGEAR IGMP Plus interoperates automatically with M4500 and M4300 switches on the same VLAN, allowing multicast AV traffic to scale across the network with minimal configuration. The switch carries an x86 Intel Atom C3558 control plane with 8GB DDR3 ECC memory and a 128GB SSD, supporting CLI, SSH, SNMP, sFlow, and MLAG management alongside dedicated out-of-band 1G access. NETGEAR rates the platform for line-rate switching with ultra-low latency on the order of 0.13 microseconds on 100G links. Redundant 1+1 power and 4+2 fan configurations keep the switch serviceable in continuous broadcast and production environments. PTPv2 and quality-of-service features support time-sensitive media flows across the fabric.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the M4500-32C suitable as an AV-over-IP core switch?
Yes. With 32 ports of 100G QSFP28 and SDVoE certification, it is designed to serve as the spine or core for large AV-over-IP networks aggregating hundreds of encoders and decoders.

Do I need PIM or Layer-3 multicast routing to use it for AV?
No. NETGEAR IGMP Plus provides Layer-2 multicast that scales AV distribution without PIM, and it interoperates automatically with M4500 and M4300 switches on the same VLAN.

Can the QSFP28 ports run at speeds other than 100G?
Yes. All 32 ports ship preconfigured for 100G and also accept 40G QSFP+ and 50G QSFP28 optics or DAC cables, so you can mix link speeds across one chassis.

How does it integrate with an existing AV system?
It supports SDVoE workflows, PTPv2 timing, and QoS, and connects to encoders, decoders, and aggregation switches over standard optics and DAC cabling. Our team can help size the optics and topology for your deployment.

What warranty and support are included?
The switch is backed by NETGEAR's ProSAFE limited lifetime hardware warranty. Contact our team for support options and project guidance.
