Product Overview

The Midas MR18 digital mixer is an 18-input, portable digital mixing solution controlled wirelessly via iPad or Android tablet, making it well suited for venues and applications where front-of-house positioning flexibility is a priority. With 16 MIDAS PRO preamps and a built-in WiFi router, the MR18 functions as a complete 18-input WiFi digital mixer without requiring any additional networking hardware for basic wireless control. As a Midas MR18 tablet mixer, it supports iOS and Android apps for full mixing access, 6 aux buses for monitor mixes, and a bidirectional USB audio interface for direct DAW recording. The MR18 brings professional-grade preamp quality and processing depth to small live venues, houses of worship, corporate AV, and rehearsal environments where a traditional large-format console is neither practical nor necessary.

Product Description

Midas MR18 18-Input Digital Mixer for iPad/Android Tablets

The MR18 houses 16 MIDAS PRO microphone preamps — the same design used in the M32 Series — in a compact stage-box-style chassis, with two additional stereo line inputs for a total of 18 inputs. The integrated tri-mode WiFi module supports Access Point mode for direct connection of up to 4 devices, Client mode for joining an existing network, or wired Ethernet for longer-range or 5 GHz applications. Front-of-house can be positioned anywhere in the venue, with the engineer mixing from an iPad or Android tablet while physically walking the room. The M AIR MIX app (iOS and Android) and M AIR EDIT software (PC/Mac/Linux) provide full access to channel processing, routing, scene management, and effects. Six aux buses give the engineer up to 6 independent monitor mixes — each with its own parametric EQ, dynamics, and 31-band graphic EQ — while individual performers can manage their own mix via the M AIR MIX app on their own device. The 18 x 18 bidirectional USB audio interface allows direct multitrack recording and playback to a connected computer or iPad, making the MR18 equally useful for capturing rehearsals, services, or live performances. Four onboard virtual effects engines (M32-derived) provide stereo reverbs, delays, dynamics, and modulation without external hardware. The MR18 also includes an ULTRANET port for sending 16 channels of digital audio to Behringer POWERPLAY P16-M personal monitor mixers via Cat5e. For venues or productions that require a higher channel count or AES50 stage box connectivity, the Midas M32C and Midas DL32 are also available at Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • 16 MIDAS PRO Microphone Preamps — The same award-winning preamp design found in the M32 Series, with combo XLR/TRS connectors, switchable 48V phantom power, and locking latches on all 16 channels.
  • 18 Total Inputs — 16 mic/line combo inputs plus 2 additional stereo line inputs (channels 17/18) for a total of 18 input channels.
  • Built-In Tri-Mode WiFi Router — Integrated WiFi module operates in Access Point mode (up to 4 simultaneous clients), WiFi Client mode (joins existing network), or wired Ethernet — no external router required for basic wireless operation.
  • iPad and Android App Control — M AIR MIX app for iOS and Android provides full mixing access including channel processing, routing, and effects; M AIR EDIT for PC/Mac/Linux offers the same control on a larger screen.
  • 6 Aux Buses for Monitor Mixes — Six independent aux buses, each with parametric EQ, dynamics processing, and 31-band graphic EQ for creating separate monitor mixes for performers or zone sends.
  • 18 x 18 USB Audio Interface — Bidirectional USB interface delivers up to 18 channels of audio to and from a connected computer or iPad for multitrack DAW recording of live performances and rehearsals.
  • 4 Onboard Virtual FX Engines — Four true-stereo effects processors derived from the M32, providing reverbs, delays, dynamics, and modulation — including modeled emulations of the Lexicon 480L, PCM70, and Teletronix LA-2A.
  • ULTRANET Port — Sends up to 16 channels of 24-bit digital audio via Cat5e directly to Behringer POWERPLAY P16-M personal monitor mixers for in-ear monitoring without additional analog wiring.
  • Auto-Mix (Gain Sharing) — M AIR Gain Sharing automix manages up to 16 open microphones automatically, based on the Dan Dugan paradigm, reducing feedback and comb filtering in panel discussions, conferences, and multi-mic setups.
  • MIDI I/O — Physical MIDI In/Out for connecting external controllers (including Behringer X-TOUCH) or triggering scene changes from external MIDI devices; supports Mackie Control protocol.
  • Compact Stage-Box Design — Portable, rack-mountable chassis designed for quick deployment in small venues, houses of worship, corporate event spaces, and rehearsal rooms.

Typical Applications

  • Houses of worship (small to medium) where the engineer needs to mix from the congregation area using a tablet
  • Small live music venues requiring professional preamp quality and wireless control without a dedicated console position
  • Corporate AV and event production where portability and quick setup are priorities
  • Rehearsal rooms and multi-purpose spaces where the MR18 can be positioned at the stage and controlled from anywhere in the room
  • Live recording of performances and services directly to a laptop or iPad via the USB audio interface

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What app is used to control the MR18?

The MR18 is controlled via the M AIR MIX app, available free for iOS (iPad/iPhone) and Android tablets and smartphones. For computer-based control, M AIR EDIT is available as a free download for PC, Mac, and Linux. All apps provide full access to channel processing, routing, effects, and scene management.

Q: Does the MR18 include a built-in WiFi router?

Yes. The MR18 has an integrated tri-mode WiFi module. In Access Point mode, it creates its own wireless network and supports up to 4 simultaneous connected devices. It can also operate in WiFi Client mode to join an existing network, or connect via wired Ethernet for extended range or 5 GHz operation.

Q: How many simultaneous monitor mixes does the MR18 support?

The MR18 provides 6 independent aux buses, each configurable as a separate monitor mix with its own EQ and dynamics. Individual performers can control their own aux bus mix using the M AIR MIX app on their own iOS or Android device.

Q: Can the MR18 interface with a computer DAW for multitrack recording?

Yes. The MR18 includes an 18 x 18 bidirectional USB 2.0 audio interface, allowing up to 18 channels of audio to be sent to and from a connected computer running a DAW. This enables multitrack recording of live performances, rehearsals, or studio sessions directly from the MR18.

Q: What is the maximum number of input channels on the MR18?

The MR18 has 18 total inputs: 16 mic/line channels via combo XLR/TRS connectors (with MIDAS PRO preamps) and 2 additional stereo line inputs on channels 17 and 18.

Q: Is the MR18 compatible with iOS and Android devices?

Yes. The M AIR MIX app is available for both iOS (iPad and iPhone, available from the Apple App Store) and Android (tablets and smartphones running Android 2.2 or higher). Both versions provide full mixing access, including channel EQ, dynamics, effects, routing, and scene loading.
