Product Overview

The Martin Audio CDD12B is a compact passive two-way loudspeaker in black (RAL9005) designed for high-output installations across medium-throw distances in commercial AV environments. Its 12" (300mm) LF / 1" exit HF Coaxial Differential Dispersion driver, housed in a birch plywood enclosure, delivers consistent audience coverage and high fidelity in medium-to-large rooms such as houses of worship, auditoriums, and large multipurpose venues. The Coaxial Differential Dispersion technology maintains point-source phase relationships through the crossover region, supporting both music program and speech intelligibility applications. See the full Martin Audio CDD series at Creation Networks.

Product Description

The Martin Audio CDD12B uses the same high-specification driver assembly as the CDD12W: a 12" LF driver with a 2.5" voice coil and aluminium demodulating ring for reduced distortion, paired with an HF compression driver featuring a 1.75" (44mm) polyimide diaphragm and low-compression phase-plug for clarity through the high-frequency band. The Coaxial Differential Dispersion driver architecture places both drivers on a shared acoustic axis, achieving point-source summation and eliminating the off-axis tonal variation common in spatially separated two-way designs. A static waveguide maintains the dispersion pattern through the high-frequency range, preventing the HF beaming that progressively narrows coverage in conventional coaxial designs. The birch plywood enclosure supports horizontal (landscape) and vertical (portrait) mounting orientations, with the user-rotatable drive unit allowing dispersion direction to be changed in the field after removing the screw-free perforated steel grille. The curved enclosure profile accommodates optional wall bracket surface mounting or ceiling suspension via integral eyebolt inserts and an optional horizontal yoke. The CDD12B operates at 8Ω nominal impedance and should be driven with a compatible controller providing appropriate limiter settings. When paired with a Martin Audio DX4.0 controller or iKON amplifier, factory DSP and FIR presets deliver optimized system performance and integrated limiter protection. The black finish integrates with dark ceiling and wall surfaces in auditoriums, nightclubs, and architectural spaces where white would be visually disruptive. Key Features

  • 12" / 2.5" Voice Coil LF Driver with Aluminium Demodulating Ring — Reduces motor inductance variation and intermodulation distortion at high output levels.
  • 1.75" Polyimide Diaphragm HF Driver with Low-Compression Phase-Plug — Reduces non-linearity in the HF band for improved clarity and lower distortion at sustained SPL.
  • Coaxial Differential Dispersion Technology — Point-source LF/HF summation and front-to-rear SPL compensation for consistent coverage at medium-throw distances.
  • Static HF Waveguide — Maintains dispersion pattern through upper frequencies to prevent HF beaming.
  • User-Rotatable Drive Unit — Field-selectable horizontal or vertical dispersion without tools after grille removal.
  • Birch Plywood Enclosure — High-stiffness construction controls resonance at 12" driver excursion levels.
  • Eyebolt Suspension Points and Optional Horizontal Yoke — Supports rigging and bracket mounting in a range of installation environments.
  • DX4.0 and iKON Amplifier Compatibility — Factory DSP and FIR presets for maximum system performance and limiter protection.
  • Custom RAL Colour Available — Factory supply in any RAL colour for specific project requirements.
  • Black (RAL9005) Finish — Integrates with dark surfaces in auditoriums, nightclubs, and architectural spaces; white variant available as CDD12W.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the CDD12B compare to the CDD12W?
The CDD12B and CDD12W are acoustically identical. The only difference is finish: CDD12B in black (RAL9005) and CDD12W in white (RAL9016). Both are available at Creation Networks.
What amplifier is recommended?
Martin Audio recommends the DX4.0 networked system controller with an iKON amplifier, providing factory-tuned DSP and FIR presets and integrated limiter protection for the CDD12B. A third-party amplifier with appropriate limiter settings may also be used.
Is the CDD12B suitable for a house of worship main system?
Yes. The CDD12B's high output capability, Coaxial Differential Dispersion coverage pattern, and point-source driver coherence make it appropriate for use as a primary loudspeaker in medium-to-large worship spaces. For very large auditoriums, the CDD15B provides higher output capacity.
Can the CDD12B be suspended from a ceiling?
Yes. Integral inserts in the birch plywood enclosure accept eyebolts for grid or ceiling suspension. An optional horizontal yoke bracket accommodates bracket-mount ceiling installations where direct eyebolt rigging is not available.
Is a custom finish available for the CDD12B?
Yes. Martin Audio can supply the CDD12B in any RAL colour to order for specific project requirements. Contact Creation Networks for lead times and pricing on custom finishes.
Does the aluminium demodulating ring make a noticeable difference in a commercial AV context?
At the output levels commercial installations require, voice coil inductance variation in the motor gap produces intermodulation distortion that affects both music and speech clarity. The demodulating ring reduces this effect, maintaining lower distortion under sustained high-SPL program — which is most noticeable in critical listening environments such as houses of worship and performance venues.
What warranty applies to the CDD12B?
Martin Audio products carry a standard manufacturer warranty. Contact Creation Networks at creationnetworks.net for warranty terms and dealer support.
