Product Overview

The Martin Audio CDD12W is a compact passive two-way loudspeaker in white (RAL9016), built around a 12" (300mm) LF / 1" exit HF Coaxial Differential Dispersion driver in a birch plywood enclosure. It is designed for installations requiring high output levels across medium-throw distances — making it a strong candidate for houses of worship, auditoriums, multi-purpose rooms, and large commercial venues. The CDD12W delivers consistent audience coverage via the Differential Dispersion pattern while maintaining point-source phase coherence through the crossover region. Product Description

The Martin Audio CDD12W's 12" LF driver uses a 2.5" (65mm) voice coil and an efficient motor assembly with an aluminium demodulating ring to minimize distortion across the operating range. The HF driver employs a 1.75" (44mm) polyimide diaphragm and features a low-compression phase-plug to reduce non-linearity through the high-frequency band. Together, these design choices prioritize clarity and fidelity at the output levels the CDD12W is capable of producing. The Coaxial Differential Dispersion driver achieves point-source summation at the crossover frequency, eliminating the off-axis tonal artifacts present in spatially separated two-way designs. The static waveguide maintains the dispersion pattern through the upper frequency range, preventing HF beaming that narrows the effective coverage area of conventional coaxial drivers at high frequencies. The birch plywood enclosure supports both landscape and portrait mounting orientations, with the user-rotatable coaxial drive unit allowing dispersion orientation to be switched in the field after screw-free grille removal. The curved enclosure profile allows surface mounting close to a wall via an optional wall bracket or ceiling suspension via eyebolts or an optional horizontal yoke. The CDD12W should be operated with a compatible system controller providing appropriate limiter settings. When used with the Martin Audio DX4.0 controller or iKON amplifier, factory DSP and FIR presets provide optimized frequency response and integrated limiter protection. For high-SPL coverage at larger scale, the CDD15W is the next step up in the passive CDD range. All CDD products are available at creationnetworks.net.

Key Features

  • 12" / 2.5" Voice Coil LF Driver with Aluminium Demodulating Ring — Efficient motor design with demodulating ring minimizes distortion across the operating power range.
  • 1.75" Polyimide Diaphragm HF Driver with Low-Compression Phase-Plug — Phase-plug reduces non-linearity for improved clarity and lower distortion through the HF band.
  • Coaxial Differential Dispersion Technology — Point-source LF/HF summation maintains consistent tonal balance across the listening area at medium-throw distances.
  • Static HF Waveguide — Preserves the designed dispersion pattern through high frequencies, preventing beaming in the upper frequency range.
  • User-Rotatable Drive Unit — Horizontal or vertical dispersion selectable in the field by removing the screw-free perforated steel grille.
  • Birch Plywood Enclosure — High-stiffness construction controls resonance at the excursion levels of the 12" driver complement.
  • Wall Mount and Ceiling Suspension Options — Optional wall bracket for surface mounting; eyebolt inserts and optional horizontal yoke for ceiling suspension.
  • DX4.0 and iKON Amplifier Compatibility — Factory DSP and FIR presets for optimized frequency response and integrated limiter protection.
  • Custom RAL Colour Available — Factory supply in any RAL colour beyond standard white (RAL9016) or black (RAL9005) options.
  • White (RAL9016) Textured Finish — Standard white finish for light-colored architectural surfaces; black variant available as CDD12B.

Frequently Asked Questions

What room size is the CDD12W designed for?
Martin Audio positions the CDD12W for installations requiring high output at medium-throw distances. It is appropriate for medium-to-large rooms such as houses of worship, auditoriums, and large multi-purpose rooms where the CDD8 or CDD10 lack the output or throw required. For very large rooms or extreme SPL requirements, the CDD15W provides a higher-output alternative.
What amplifier and controller configuration is recommended?
Martin Audio recommends the DX4.0 networked system controller paired with an iKON amplifier, which provide factory-tuned DSP and FIR presets and integrated limiter settings for the CDD12W. A compatible third-party power amplifier with appropriate limiter protection may also be used.
What is the role of the aluminium demodulating ring in the LF driver?
The aluminium demodulating ring in the LF motor reduces inductance variation as the voice coil moves through its excursion range, lowering intermodulation distortion and maintaining more linear behavior across the power band — particularly relevant for high-fidelity program material at elevated SPL levels.
Can the CDD12W be suspended from a ceiling grid?
Yes. The birch plywood enclosure includes integral inserts for eyebolt suspension, enabling the CDD12W to be hung from rigging points in auditoriums and houses of worship. An optional horizontal yoke provides an alternative mounting configuration for installations without grid infrastructure.
How does the CDD12W compare to the CDD12B?
The CDD12W and CDD12B are acoustically identical. The CDD12W ships in white (RAL9016); the CDD12B in black (RAL9005). Both are available at Creation Networks.
Is custom colour available for the CDD12W?
Yes. Martin Audio can supply the CDD12W in any RAL colour to order for projects with specific architectural or branding requirements. Contact Creation Networks for lead time and pricing on custom finishes.
What warranty applies to the CDD12W?
Martin Audio products carry a standard manufacturer warranty. Contact Creation Networks at creationnetworks.net for warranty terms and support options.
