What is the Magewell Pro Convert HDMI Plus NDI encoder?
The Magewell Pro Convert HDMI Plus is a standalone HDMI to NDI encoder that converts one HDMI source into a full-bandwidth NDI High Bandwidth stream with very low latency. It accepts HDMI input up to 4K and encodes up to 2048×2160, or 1080p at up to 120 fps, while passing the source to a local display through HDMI loop-through. It is the cost-effective way to put presentation laptops, cameras and media players onto an NDI-based AV-over-IP network in conference rooms, studios and event spaces.
How does the Magewell Pro Convert HDMI Plus work?
The encoder takes an HDMI 1.4 or DVI-D source at up to 4096×2160 30p (4:4:4) or 60p (4:2:0) and passes the full signal to a display on the loop-through output, so the room screen keeps working while the source goes onto the network. A custom EDID makes the source output exactly the format the system needs. The unit scales the input to a native or custom resolution and encodes NDI High Bandwidth at up to 2048×2160 or 1080p120 with eight channels of embedded HDMI audio, and can halve, third or quarter the frame rate to save bandwidth.
Any NDI receiver — NDI Studio Monitor, vMix, OBS, NDI decoders and switchers — can pick up the source directly. The Mini-DIN-8 port drives a tally light and controls PTZ cameras over NDI using VISCA, VISCA UDP, PELCO-P or PELCO-D. The encoder detects the input format and takes a DHCP address on its own, is managed through its web interface, Magewell Control Hub or HTTP APIs, and runs on 802.3af PoE or its 5 V supply. Magewell publishes Q-SYS and Crestron plugins for the Pro Convert encoder family.
What are the key features of the Magewell Pro Convert HDMI Plus?
- Full-bandwidth NDI — Encodes NDI High Bandwidth up to 2048×2160 or 1080p120 with very low latency.
- 4K input with loop-through — Accepts HDMI up to 4K and passes it to a local display while encoding.
- Scaling and frame-rate control — Outputs native or custom resolutions and reduced frame rates to match the network.
- Tally and PTZ control — Drives tally lights and controls PTZ cameras over NDI through the Mini-DIN-8 port.
- PoE powered — Runs from an 802.3af PoE switch port, removing local power at the source.
- Control-system integration — Q-SYS and Crestron plugins plus HTTP APIs for room automation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between the HDMI Plus and HDMI 4K Plus?
Both accept 4K input with loop-through. The HDMI Plus encodes up to 2048×2160 or 1080p120; the HDMI 4K Plus encodes full 4K60.
Does it work with Q-SYS or Crestron?
Yes. Magewell publishes a Q-SYS control plugin, Crestron SIMPL+ modules and HTTP APIs for the Pro Convert encoders. See the full Magewell line, including the Pro Convert HDMI TX.
Can it control PTZ cameras?
Yes, over NDI using VISCA, VISCA UDP, PELCO-P or PELCO-D through the Mini-DIN-8 port.
Will the local display still work?
Yes. The loop-through passes the source to a display while the unit encodes.
How is it powered?
From an 802.3af PoE switch port or the included 5 V adapter.
