What is the Magewell Ultra Encode HDMI streaming encoder?
The Magewell Ultra Encode HDMI is a standalone HDMI streaming encoder that turns one HDMI source into live streams and NDI HX2 video without a computer. It takes HDMI input up to 4K60, encodes up to 2048×1080 60p in H.264 or H.265, and streams over RTMP, RTMPS, SRT, RTSP, HLS, NDI HX2 and MPEG-TS. It is the cost-effective choice for streaming a presenter laptop, camera or switcher output from a conference room, classroom or meeting space to a platform or an internal server.
How does the Magewell Ultra Encode HDMI work?
The encoder accepts HDMI 1.4a or DVI-D input at up to 4096×2160 60p (4:2:0) and passes it unchanged to a local display through the HDMI loop-through, so the room screen keeps working while the unit streams. It scales and encodes the source to a main stream of up to 2K60 and an optional sub stream, so one session can carry a full-quality 1080p feed while another sends a lighter version. Audio comes from the HDMI signal or from the 3.5 mm line input and is encoded as two-channel AAC; the line output lets an engineer monitor what is being sent.
Streaming supports native YouTube, Facebook and Twitch destinations as well as RTMP/RTMPS, SRT caller and listener, RTSP, HLS, NDI HX2, TS over UDP/RTP and TVU ISSP. It can run up to six RTMP/RTMPS or SRT sessions at once for multi-platform distribution. Up to eight overlays per stream add text, logos or a clock. The unit connects by Gigabit Ethernet or Wi-Fi, accepts a USB 4G/5G modem, is configured in a browser, registers with Magewell Control Hub, and exposes an API so a room control system can start and stop streaming.
Compared with the Ultra Encode HDMI Plus, this model encodes up to 1080p rather than 4K, uses NDI HX2 rather than HX3, has no internal recording and is powered by its 5 V supply rather than PoE. Choose it where the job is streaming a single HD source.

|---|---|---|
| Max encode | 2K60 | 4K30 |
| NDI | HX2 | HX2 and HX3 |

What are the key features of the Magewell Ultra Encode HDMI?
- 4K60 HDMI input — Accepts HDMI sources up to 4K60 and encodes them to a clean 1080p60 stream.
- Multi-protocol streaming — Streams over RTMP, RTMPS, SRT, RTSP, HLS, NDI HX2 and MPEG-TS.
- Multi-platform output — Runs up to six RTMP/RTMPS or SRT sessions at once to reach several platforms.
- HDMI loop-through — Passes the source to a local display so streaming never interrupts the room screen.
- Dual-stream encoding — Produces a main and a sub stream for high- and low-bitrate destinations.
- Overlays — Adds up to eight text, picture or clock overlays per stream.
- Control-system ready — Provides an API and Control Hub management for remote, automated operation.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can the Ultra Encode HDMI record?
No. It streams only. For built-in recording, 4K encoding or PoE, choose the Ultra Encode HDMI Plus.
Can it stream to more than one platform?
Yes. It runs up to six RTMP/RTMPS or SRT sessions at once.
Does it work with a room control system?
Yes. Magewell provides an API, so a Q-SYS, Crestron or other control processor can start and stop streaming. See the full Magewell line, including the Pro Convert HDMI TX for full-bandwidth NDI.
Will it affect the image on the room display?
No. The HDMI loop-through passes the source to the display while the unit encodes.
Can it stream over a cellular connection?
Yes. It accepts a USB 4G/5G modem (not supplied) as a primary or backup connection.
