What is the Magewell USB Capture DVI Plus capture device?
The Magewell USB Capture DVI Plus is a driver-free USB 3.0 capture device that brings one DVI, VGA, HDMI or component source into a computer as a webcam. It captures up to 2048×2160 from digital sources with analog conversion for legacy computers, and adds a line input and line output. It is a dependable way to capture older computers, medical and lab equipment, and mixed-vintage presentation sources into conferencing, recording or streaming software.
How does the Magewell USB Capture DVI Plus work?
Sources connect to the DVI-I port directly, through the included DVI-to-VGA adapter, or through the breakout cable for HDMI and component. Digital sources go through a 225 MHz receiver up to 1080p60 4:4:4 with a custom EDID, while VGA and component are digitized by a 12-bit converter that supports separate, composite, sync-on-green and sync-on-luma timing plus custom CVT and GTF timings for nonstandard outputs.
Onboard processing crops, scales, deinterlaces and converts format and frame rate, then sends video to the computer over USB 3.0 at up to 120 fps. Audio comes from the HDMI signal or the 3.5 mm line input, with a 3.5 mm line output for monitoring. The computer sees a standard UVC and UAC device, so no drivers are needed, and the MWCapture SDK supports custom applications. It is bus-powered at about 3 W.
