Product Overview
The Listen Technologies CLD001PD is a CLD1 compact induction loop driver supplied with desktop microphone and counter loop pad, built for counter and small area hearing loop systems at service positions. It covers up to 20m² on a 1:1 perimeter loop and is the standard specification for reception desks, ticket windows, pharmacy counters and information points where a full room loop is not required. The supplied counter loop pad and microphone make it a complete single-position assistive listening solution. AGC optimised for speech keeps output consistent as the person at the counter moves relative to the microphone.
Product Description
Counter loops solve a specific accessibility problem: a hearing aid user at a service position needs a clear feed of the staff member's voice, and the ambient noise of a public space makes that difficult. The CLD1 drives a small loop at the counter so the audio goes directly to the telecoil in the user's hearing aid.

This variant ships with desktop microphone and counter loop pad. The counter loop pad is the radiating element; a counter loop pad sits flat under or on the counter surface, while a loop coil is run around the service position. Coverage is 20m² at a 1:1 aspect ratio, extending to 30m² at 2:1 and 35m² at 3:1, so the shape of the loop matters as much as its area. Drive current is 2.4Arms into a loop of 0.3Ω to 1.0Ω resistance.
The audio system covers 80Hz to 6.3kHz ±1.5dB with better than 36dB dynamic range, and metal loss correction is adjustable from 0 to 4.5dB per octave to compensate for steel in the counter or floor structure. Two inputs are provided: a dedicated microphone input on 3.5mm jack, and a second input switchable between line and microphone level, which is useful where a counter also carries an intercom or a screen with audio.
Alternative microphone and loop element combinations are available across the CLD1 range if this pairing does not suit the counter layout.
As with any hearing loop, the installed system is verified by measuring field strength against IEC 60118-4 rather than by listening. A field strength meter with signal connection cables is the tool for that, and the measurement is what an accessibility consultant will ask to see.
Key Features
- 20m² perimeter coverage — Covers up to 20m² at a 1:1 aspect ratio, extending to 35m² at 3:1, sized for counters and small areas.
- 2.4Arms drive current — Delivers 3.4Apk continuous into loop resistances from 0.3Ω to 1.0Ω.
- AGC optimised for speech — Holds output consistent as the talker moves relative to the microphone at a service position.
- Metal loss correction — Adjustable from 0 to 4.5dB per octave to compensate for steel in the counter or floor structure.
- Two audio inputs — A dedicated microphone input plus a second input switchable between line and microphone level.
- 80Hz to 6.3kHz response — Covers the speech band to ±1.5dB with better than 36dB dynamic range.
- Compact 128 × 74 × 35mm chassis — Fits inside counter joinery or a small equipment enclosure at 280g.
- IEC 60118-4 capable — Meets the installed hearing loop performance standard when correctly commissioned.

Frequently Asked Questions
How large an area will the CLD1 cover?
Up to 20m² on a 1:1 perimeter loop, 30m² at 2:1 and 35m² at 3:1. Loop shape affects coverage as much as area, so confirm the geometry of the service position before specifying.
What is included in this configuration?
This part number ships with desktop microphone and counter loop pad. Other CLD1 configurations pair different microphones and loop elements; the driver itself is common across the range.
Does it need a separate power supply?
The standard CLD1 runs from a 12V DC supply at 1.0A maximum. A CLD1-AC variant with an integral 100-240V AC supply is produced where a local mains connection is preferred.
Can it take a second audio source as well as the microphone?
Yes. Input 2 is switchable between line and microphone level, which covers counters that also carry an intercom feed or a screen with audio.
How do I handle a steel counter or floor?
Metal in the structure absorbs field strength. Metal loss correction is adjustable from 0 to 4.5dB per octave to compensate, but the loss should be measured during survey rather than estimated.
How is the installation verified?
By measuring magnetic field strength against IEC 60118-4 with a field strength meter. A listening check does not demonstrate compliance and will not satisfy an accessibility consultant.
