Product Overview
The Lightware VINX-120AP-HDMI-ENC is a 1080p AV-over-IP encoder and multimedia extender for installations where 4K is not required but reliable, low-latency IP video distribution is. It transmits HDMI video, embedded audio, USB keyboard and mouse, RS-232, and IR over a single 1GbE network connection, making it a cost-effective alternative to dedicated fiber or HDBaseT matrix infrastructure for conference rooms, classrooms, and corporate AV networks.

Product Description

The VINX-120AP-HDMI-ENC is the 1080p-class member of Lightware's VINX AV-over-IP encoder line. Where the VINX-210AP handles 4K60 sources, the VINX-120AP targets installations with 1080p60 sources and display infrastructure, delivering the same multiroom distribution capability at a form factor and bandwidth profile suited to existing network infrastructure. The encoder connects to any HDMI source, compresses the signal using H.264, and places it on the LAN as a multicast or unicast stream that VINX decoders can receive anywhere on the managed network.

The integrated USB HID extension allows operators at a remote display to control a PC or media player at the source location — an important capability for huddle rooms, executive briefing centers, and classroom AV setups. RS-232 and IR pass-through lets existing control systems communicate with display devices over the IP link without additional control infrastructure.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the VINX-120AP and the VINX-210AP?
- The VINX-120AP targets 1080p60 installations and is suited for sites where existing cameras, laptops, and displays operate at Full HD. The VINX-210AP adds 4K60 4:4:4 support and H.265 encoding for installations requiring higher resolution or more efficient bandwidth use at 4K. Both carry the same USB K+M, RS-232, and IR feature set over 1GbE.
- Will the VINX-120AP work on a standard office LAN?
- It operates on any 1GbE managed switch that supports IGMP snooping. A dedicated AV VLAN is recommended to isolate multicast traffic and ensure consistent quality of service, but it is not mandatory for low-scale deployments.
- How many decoders can receive a single encoder stream?
- In multicast mode, a single encoder stream can be received by an unlimited number of decoders simultaneously without additional network load per receiver, subject to switch and network bandwidth limits.
- Can I mix VINX-120AP encoders with VINX-210AP decoders?
- Yes. All VINX-series encoders and decoders share the same IP streaming protocol and management platform. A VINX-120AP encoder will stream to any VINX decoder, with the output limited to 1080p60 as that is the maximum the encoder produces.
- Is Lightware Device Controller software included?
- Lightware Device Controller (LDC) is a free download from Lightware's website. It provides GUI-based configuration, routing, and monitoring for all VINX devices on the network.
