Product Overview
The Lightware USB20-1GBE-HS10 is a USB 2.0 over LAN host-side extender that connects to a host computer and delivers USB 2.0 device access to a remote device-side extender over standard 1GbE Ethernet infrastructure. It is the non-PoE variant in the Lightware USB-over-LAN host extender line, suited for installations where the device-side extender is powered locally or from a PoE network switch rather than from the host unit. The HS10 supports 10 concurrent USB device sessions from the connected device-side extender, making it appropriate for classrooms, conference rooms, and training environments with multiple peripheral devices at the remote end.
Purchase from Creation Networks with full Lightware warranty and pre-sales engineering support.
Product Description

The USB20-1GBE-HS10 connects to the host PC via a USB Type-B port and to the network via a standard RJ-45 1GbE port. A Lightware USB20-1GBE-DS device-side extender on the same network connects the peripheral devices, which appear to the host OS as locally attached USB devices with no additional drivers required for the extension layer. The HS10 differs from the HS13P in that it does not supply PoE to the device-side unit — the device extender must be powered from a local supply or a PoE switch port. This makes the HS10 the lower-cost host-side option for installations where PoE power delivery from the host to device end is not a requirement.
With support for 10 simultaneous USB device connections across the network, the HS10 accommodates a full suite of conference room or classroom USB peripherals: cameras, speakerphones, touchscreens, HID devices, and USB audio interfaces.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the HS10 and the HS13P?
- The HS10 does not provide PoE output to the device-side extender and supports up to 10 concurrent USB device connections. The HS13P adds PoE+ output (802.3at) to power a device-side extender over the connecting cable and supports up to 13 devices. The HS10 is the lower-cost host option when device-side power is not needed from the host unit.
- Does the device-side extender need a separate power source when using the HS10?
- Yes. Since the HS10 does not provide PoE, the device-side extender (such as the USB20-1GBE-DS4P) must be powered from a local 12 V DC supply or from a PoE+ port on the connected network switch. Both are available from Creation Networks.
- Can the HS10 work over a shared office LAN?
- The extension works over any 1GbE Ethernet connection. For time-sensitive USB devices such as cameras or audio interfaces, a dedicated switch port or VLAN with quality of service configured is recommended to avoid contention with office data traffic.
- What USB device types are supported?
- USB 2.0 High Speed class-compliant devices are supported, including UVC cameras, UAC speakerphones, HID keyboards and mice, USB audio interfaces, and USB mass storage. USB 3.0 SuperSpeed devices are not supported as the system operates at USB 2.0 speeds.
- Is Lightware Device Controller software required for ongoing operation?
- Lightware Device Controller (LDC) is used for initial configuration and monitoring of the extension system. Once configured, the extender pair operates independently and does not require LDC to be running for USB extension to function.
