Product Overview

The Lightware USB20-1GBE-DS4P is a USB 2.0 over LAN device-side extender with PoE input and four USB 2.0 Type-A ports. It sits at the peripheral end of a Lightware USB-over-LAN extension system and presents up to four USB 2.0 devices to a remote host computer over a standard 1GbE Ethernet connection. Powered entirely via PoE from a compatible Lightware host-side extender, the DS4P requires no local power supply — the single CATx network cable delivers both data and power. This makes it the preferred device-side extender for conference table boxes, floor boxes, and AV furniture where adding power outlets is impractical.

Available at Creation Networks with engineering support and full Lightware warranty.

Product Description

Lightware USB20-1GBE-DS4P device extender

The DS4P is the remote-end unit in a Lightware USB-over-LAN extension pair. USB peripherals — cameras, speakerphones, HID devices, USB audio interfaces, touchscreens — plug into the four USB Type-A ports on the DS4P. The unit connects to the LAN and communicates with the host-side extender (such as the USB20-1GBE-HS13P) over a standard 1GbE link. The host computer sees the connected USB devices as if they were plugged in locally, with no additional software required on the client OS for the extension itself.

The PoE input allows the unit to be powered from a PoE+ host-side extender or from a PoE-capable network switch port, keeping the installation cable count to a minimum. Four USB ports accommodate the typical set of AV conference peripherals — camera, speakerphone, touch panel controller, and one spare — from a single device-side unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which host-side extender pairs with the USB20-1GBE-DS4P?
The DS4P is designed to pair with Lightware USB20-1GBE-HS-series host extenders, including the USB20-1GBE-HS13P (PoE output model) and USB20-1GBE-HS10 (non-PoE model). The HS13P provides PoE to power the DS4P over the connecting CATx cable. Both models are available at Creation Networks.
Can the DS4P be powered from a standard PoE network switch instead of the host extender?
Yes. The DS4P accepts PoE+ (802.3at) from any compliant PoE switch port or midspan injector. This allows it to be powered independently of the host extender, which is useful when the host and device extenders connect through a central switch rather than a direct cable run.
What USB devices are supported?
The DS4P supports USB 2.0 High Speed class-compliant devices including UVC cameras, UAC speakerphones and microphones, HID keyboards and mice, USB touch interfaces, and USB storage. Devices requiring USB 3.0 speeds are not supported, as the system is limited to USB 2.0.
Is there a total bandwidth limit across all four ports?
USB 2.0 provides a maximum of 480 Mbps shared across all devices on a host controller. When multiple high-bandwidth devices (e.g., two USB cameras) operate simultaneously, the available bandwidth is shared between them. For most AV conference room device sets, this is not a limiting factor.
Can I use multiple DS4P units with a single host extender?
The ability to connect multiple device-side extenders to a single host depends on the host extender model and software configuration. Contact Creation Networks to discuss multi-DS deployment architectures for your project.
