Once applied, the MMU manages and controls an unlimited number of UBEX endpoint devices — transmitters and receivers — connected to the 10G Ethernet switch forming the virtual matrix crosspoint. The MMU continuously builds and updates a database of all connected UBEX units, presents a traditional crosspoint view in the Lightware Device Controller (LDC) software, and manages bandwidth allocation across all endpoints. It also handles simultaneous firmware updates for all connected UBEX units without restriction. The MMU serves as the interface for third-party control systems via RS-232 and Ethernet, and includes Advanced EDID Management for endpoint output control. The physical hardware is a standard 1U rack unit with front panel USB and Ethernet for device access, rear RS-232 and Ethernet for third-party control, a jog-dial push button, and a color display.
