Product Overview
The Lightware UBEX-MMU-X200 is the Matrix Management Unit (MMU) for the UBEX AV-over-IP optical extender ecosystem, acting as the centralized control plane for a virtual matrix built on a standard Ethernet switch and UBEX transmitter/receiver endpoints. Where a conventional matrix switcher has a fixed hardware crosspoint, the UBEX system creates a virtual crosspoint by routing video over a 10G IP network; the MMU manages endpoint discovery, routing state, bandwidth allocation, firmware distribution, and third-party control system integration for the entire UBEX network from a single device. The UBEX-MMU-X200 (SKU 91810020) is the unlimited-endpoint license tier, supporting any number of UBEX endpoints with no software-imposed routing constraints. It is the appropriate selection for large facilities deploying UBEX as their primary 4K60 uncompressed AV-over-IP distribution infrastructure.
Product Description
The UBEX-MMU-X200 connects to the same Ethernet switch that carries the UBEX signal network, builds and continuously updates a database of all connected endpoints, and presents a traditional crosspoint view of the virtual matrix in Lightware Device Controller (LDC) software. Users interact with the MMU in matrix mode; the MMU translates those commands to the individual UBEX endpoint units across the network. The MMU also manages multiviewer operation: UBEX receivers in multiviewer mode can receive up to 5 video streams and compose a 4-panel multiview output plus a fifth full-screen output, with Picture-in-Picture, Picture-by-Picture, letterbox, and fade transition support via an external controller's alpha layer. The device supports Advanced EDID Management and serves as the RS-232/Ethernet interface for third-party control systems. The MMU is available in five license tiers (16, 50, 100, 150, and unlimited endpoints); this listing covers the unlimited tier (91810020). Upgrades between tiers are available via UBEX-MMU-X200-UPG licenses.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What Ethernet switch is required to run a UBEX system with the MMU-X200?
- Any standard managed 10G Ethernet switch functions as the crosspoint fabric for the UBEX virtual matrix. The MMU connects to this switch alongside the UBEX transmitter and receiver endpoints. Lightware recommends switches from the NETGEAR AV Line (including the TPN-LWS-10G series) for validated interoperability.
- How does the MMU handle firmware updates for a large number of endpoints?
- The MMU initiates and manages simultaneous firmware updates for all UBEX units on the network without a limit on the number of devices that can be updated in a single operation.
- Can the MMU manage endpoints on different VLANs?
- Consult your network design documentation. The MMU manages endpoints as network-connected devices; VLAN segmentation must be considered in the switch configuration to ensure MMU-to-endpoint communication is maintained.
- What does the multiviewer mode support?
- In multiviewer mode, a UBEX receiver can simultaneously receive up to 5 video streams from the matrix and compose two outputs: a 4-panel multiview layout and a single full-screen output from the fifth stream. Image positioning, scaling (Fit/Stretch/Center), letterboxing, and fade transitions are all configurable.
- How do I upgrade from a lower endpoint tier to unlimited?
- If currently at the 150-endpoint tier, purchase the UBEX-MMU-X200-NL license to unlock unlimited endpoints. From any lower tier, purchase the appropriate number of UBEX-MMU-X200-UPG licenses to step up to 150, then purchase the NL to reach unlimited.
