Product Overview

The Lightware UBEX-MMU-X200-150 is a Matrix Management Unit (MMU) for the UBEX AV-over-IP system, licensed to manage up to 150 UBEX endpoint devices. It operates as the central control and configuration hub for a virtual AV matrix built on a standard 10G Ethernet network, enabling uncompressed 4K60 4:4:4 signal distribution across large-scale installations without dedicated hardware crosspoints. The UBEX-MMU-X200-150 is the appropriate choice for enterprise-scale AV-over-IP deployments — broadcast facilities, large operations centers, multi-room corporate campuses, and live event venues — where 100–150 endpoint nodes require centralized routing, EDID management, and firmware control. Integrators specifying a scalable AV-over-IP matrix management unit or a 150-node SDVoE control platform will find the MMU essential to operating UBEX at scale.

Product Description

The UBEX-MMU-X200-150 connects to the same 10G Ethernet switch that serves as the virtual matrix crosspoint. It continuously discovers and catalogs all connected UBEX endpoint devices, presents them in a traditional crosspoint grid view within Lightware Device Controller (LDC) software, and relays all routing commands to the individual UBEX units. The MMU also manages: bandwidth efficiency monitoring, simultaneous firmware updates across all endpoints, EDID management using Lightware's Advanced EDID system, backup and restore of the full matrix configuration, and third-party control system integration via RS-232 and Ethernet.

The 150-endpoint license is the highest license-limited tier before the unlimited UBEX-MMU-X200 (no endpoint cap). Existing MMU units are upgradeable: from the base 16-endpoint model through 50, 100, and 150 tiers using the UBEX-MMU-X200-UPG license, then to unlimited with UBEX-MMU-X200-NL. This licensing model protects the initial capital investment while allowing the installation to grow without hardware replacement.

Key Features

  • 150 Endpoint License — Manages up to 150 UBEX devices; upgradeable to unlimited via software license without hardware replacement.
  • Centralized Virtual Matrix Management — Presents all UBEX nodes in a standard crosspoint routing interface within Lightware Device Controller (LDC).
  • Automatic Device Discovery — Instantly detects and catalogs UBEX endpoints as they connect to the network.
  • Simultaneous Firmware Updates — Updates firmware across all connected UBEX endpoints simultaneously without endpoint-count limitation.
  • Advanced EDID Management — Centralized EDID control for the entire virtual matrix from the MMU interface.
  • Bandwidth Management — Monitors and manages network bandwidth efficiency across the UBEX infrastructure.
  • Backup and Restore — Full matrix configuration backup and restore for rapid system recovery.
  • Third-Party Control Integration — RS-232 and Ethernet API for integration with Crestron, AMX, Q-SYS, and other platforms.
  • 1RU Rack Mount — Standard form factor with internal PSU on 110/220V IEC input; includes rack ears.
  • Upgradeable License Tiers — Grows from 16 to 50 to 100 to 150 to unlimited via UBEX-MMU-X200-UPG licenses.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between UBEX-MMU-X200-100 and UBEX-MMU-X200-150?
The hardware is identical. The difference is the license tier: the -100 model manages up to 100 UBEX endpoints and the -150 manages up to 150. Both are upgradeable to the next tier or to unlimited using the UBEX-MMU-X200-UPG and UBEX-MMU-X200-NL licenses.
Can the MMU update firmware on all 150 endpoints simultaneously?
Yes. The UBEX-MMU-X200-150 can initiate firmware updates across all connected UBEX endpoints simultaneously without any limitation on the number of devices in the update batch.
Does the MMU itself route video signals?
No. The MMU manages and controls the virtual matrix; actual video routing occurs at the UBEX endpoint devices and the 10G Ethernet switch acting as the crosspoint. The MMU is a management and control plane device.
What control systems can integrate with the MMU?
The MMU provides RS-232 and Ethernet (TCP/IP) interfaces with an open API. It is compatible with Crestron, AMX, Q-SYS, Extron Control, and other professional control platforms that support standard RS-232 or TCP/IP device control.
What happens if I exceed the 150-endpoint limit?
The MMU will display endpoints beyond the licensed count as discovered but inactive. To enable management of additional endpoints, the UBEX-MMU-X200-NL unlimited license upgrade must be applied.
Is the UBEX-MMU-X200-150 compatible with third-party SDVoE devices?
The UBEX system is designed around Lightware UBEX endpoint devices. For integration with broader SDVoE ecosystems, consult with Creation Networks at creationnetworks.net for system design guidance.
