Product Overview

The Lightware UBEX-MMU-X200-100 is a Matrix Management Unit for the UBEX AV-over-IP system, licensed to manage up to 100 UBEX endpoint devices. It functions as the central control and routing management hub for a virtual AV matrix built on a standard 10G Ethernet network, enabling uncompressed 4K60 4:4:4 signal distribution across institutional-scale installations without dedicated hardware crosspoints. The UBEX-MMU-X200-100 is well-suited for campus AV-over-IP deployments — university media centers, corporate multi-room installations, government training facilities — where 50–100 endpoint nodes require centralized management. Integrators who need more than the 50-endpoint MMU but less than the 150-endpoint tier will find this model correctly sized. The license is upgradeable to 150 or unlimited without hardware replacement.

Product Description

The UBEX-MMU-X200-100 connects to the 10G Ethernet switch that serves as the virtual matrix crosspoint, continuously discovering and cataloging UBEX endpoint devices. It presents all nodes in a standard crosspoint view within Lightware Device Controller (LDC) software and relays routing commands to individual UBEX units. Bandwidth efficiency monitoring, simultaneous firmware updates across all 100 endpoints, Advanced EDID Management, full matrix configuration backup and restore, and RS-232/Ethernet API for third-party control systems are all included.

The 100-endpoint tier is the mid-point license between the 50-node and 150-node versions. All hardware is identical across tiers; only the license level differs. Upgrading from 100 to 150 requires one UBEX-MMU-X200-UPG license; upgrading from 100 to unlimited requires the UBEX-MMU-X200-UPG plus the UBEX-MMU-X200-NL upgrade.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between UBEX-MMU-X200-100 and UBEX-MMU-X200-50?
The hardware is identical. The -50 model manages up to 50 UBEX endpoints; the -100 manages up to 100. Both are upgradeable via UBEX-MMU-X200-UPG licenses through the tier structure.
How do I upgrade from 100 to 150 endpoint capacity?
Purchase one UBEX-MMU-X200-UPG license and apply it to the existing MMU. No hardware replacement is required. The license is applied through the LDC management software.
Does the UBEX-MMU-X200-100 route video directly?
No. The MMU is a management and control plane device. Video routing occurs at the UBEX endpoint transceivers via the 10G Ethernet switch acting as the virtual matrix crosspoint. The MMU manages routing commands, EDID, firmware, and bandwidth monitoring.
What 10G switches are compatible with the UBEX system?
The UBEX system is designed to work with standard 10G Ethernet switches supporting multicast traffic. Lightware offers the TPN-LWS-10G-24X4V-P NETGEAR AV Line switch as a recommended component. Contact Creation Networks for switch selection guidance specific to your project.
Is the MMU required for basic UBEX operation?
For small deployments (under 16 endpoints), individual UBEX units can be managed without the MMU. For installations with 16+ endpoints requiring centralized routing, EDID management, and firmware control, the MMU is essential for efficient system operation.
Where can I purchase and get design support?
Available at creationnetworks.net. Creation Networks provides UBEX system design, switch selection, and integration support.
