Product Overview
The Lightware MX2M-FR24R-RFP is a 24x24 modular 4K hybrid matrix switcher frame configured with redundant power supplies (R), a front-panel display (F), and a power tray (P). It is part of the MX2M series—Lightware's field-configurable hybrid matrix platform where integrators select input and output boards from a library covering HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2, optical fiber, HDBaseTT/CATx, Dante/AES67 audio, and analog audio to build a custom routing system. The 24x24 video crosspoint operates at 18 Gbps per port with full 4K60 4:4:4 throughput and an 88x88 audio crosspoint for multichannel audio routing. Hot-swappable I/O boards and PSU drawers simplify maintenance. This frame is appropriate for broadcast studios, large conference installations, live events, and data centers where flexibility in signal type and long-term expandability are primary requirements.
Product Description
The MX2M-FR24R-FP frame accommodates 6 input video board slots and 6 output video board slots, each accepting 4-port boards (HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort 1.2, optical SC, CATx/HDBaseT, or compressed AV-over-IP via SDVoE-compatible TPX boards). An additional 4 slots accept low-speed audio boards including Dante/AES67 (32-channel, two 16-channel streams), analog 8-channel, GPIO, and USB. The video backplane runs at 18 Gbps per port; the audio crosspoint handles 88x88 non-blocking routing of uncompressed PCM 7.1, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD alongside Dante network audio. The internal Ethernet layer provides a 1G network for all connected extenders, eliminating external switches for IP extension and serial/IR injection. LDAP, AD integration, SSH, and HTTPS are supported for IT security compliance. The RFP suffix denotes: R = redundant power, F = front-panel display, P = power tray included.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What does the suffix RFP mean on the MX2M-FR24R-RFP?
- R = Redundant power (two hot-swappable PSU drawers included), F = Front-panel TFT display with rotary switch for direct crosspoint control, P = Power tray included. Other frame variants omit one or more of these features at a lower price point.
- Can I mix different signal types in the same frame?
- Yes. The MX2M-FR24R-RFP accepts any combination of compatible input and output boards. You could install HDMI 2.0 boards on some slots, optical fiber boards on others, and CATx extension boards on remaining slots, all routing through the same 24x24 video crosspoint.
- How does the internal Ethernet layer work?
- The frame includes an internal 1G Ethernet network that provides IP connectivity to all installed extender boards. This eliminates the need for an external network switch to pass IP data, serial control, or IR commands between input and output extenders.
- What is the maximum PoE power available?
- In redundant PSU configuration with both drawers populated, the frame can deliver up to 1200W total for PoE powering of connected endpoints, with a maximum of 100W per endpoint. With a single PSU drawer, the PoE budget is 600W.
- Is firmware redundancy upgrade required for dual PSU operation?
- Units shipped with two PSU drawers from the factory are power-redundancy capable by default. Units purchased with one PSU drawer and subsequently fitted with a second require a firmware Redundancy Upgrade license purchase to activate redundant operation.
