Product Overview

The Lightware MX2M-4TPX-OB is a four-port AVX SDVoE output board for the MX2M modular matrix switcher family, providing four RJ45 TPX outputs compatible with the full range of Lightware TPX receivers and SDVoE-compliant third-party receiver devices. Each port delivers uncompressed HDMI 2.0 video at up to 4096x2048@60Hz 4:4:4 (600 MHz pixel clock), multi-channel audio, RS-232, IR, and Ethernet over a single CAT6A cable at 10GBase-T to distances up to 100 meters. The board features HDCP 2.3 compliance with HDCP 1.4 cross-conversion, hot-swap support, and PoE (IEEE 802.3af) remote powering for connected TPX receiver devices at up to 25.4W per port. Available from Creation Networks as a standalone board or as part of a complete MX2M system build.

Product Description

The MX2M-4TPX-OB installs into the MX2M modular matrix frame and adds four SDVoE-standard TPX outputs to the switching fabric. On each port, the board embeds 8-channel LPCM and IEC 61937 audio formats from the MX2M’s Audio layer into the outgoing TPX stream, enabling the receiving end to decode both video and multi-channel audio from a single CAT6A cable. Command injection for CEC, RS-232, and IR on each port allows control commands to reach connected display-side receiver devices without separate control wiring. The board supports Dolby Vision at low latency (0.08 ms video delay at 1080p60) and is compatible with Christie Terra and other SDVoE ecosystem products.

Lightware MX2M-4TPX-OB SDVoE AVX Output Board for MX2M Matrix

Hot-swap capability allows the board to be inserted or removed from an operating MX2M frame without powering down the system, reducing maintenance risk in live environments. The board is enclosed in 1.5 mm steel and cooled through the MX2M frame’s airflow. The MX2M-4TPX-OB is the output-side counterpart to the MX2M-4TPX-IB, and both boards share the same physical form factor and electrical architecture within the MX2M platform.

Key Features

  • 4x SDVoE TPX Outputs (10GBase-T) — Each RJ45 port delivers video, audio, RS-232, IR, and Ethernet to Lightware TPX receivers and SDVoE-compliant third-party display endpoints.
  • 4K60 4:4:4 at up to 100m — Supports 4096x2048@60Hz 4:4:4 and 3840x2160@60Hz 4:4:4 over CAT6A to 100 meters per port.
  • HDCP 2.3 with 1.4 Cross-Conversion — Manages HDCP 2.3 and HDCP 1.4 in mixed-device environments with automatic format cross-conversion.
  • PoE Remote Powering at 25.4W per Port — Powers connected TPX receivers over the CAT6A cable; no separate power supply at the receiver end.
  • Audio Embedding from MX2M Audio Layer — Embeds 8-channel LPCM and IEC 61937 audio formats from the MX2M audio switching fabric into each output stream.
  • Less than 0.1 ms Signal Latency — 0.08 ms video delay at 1080p60; appropriate for live production monitoring and real-time switching.
  • Dolby Vision Support — Low-latency Dolby Vision pass-through in the HDMI 2.0 output stream.
  • Hot-Swap Support — Board insertable and removable from a live MX2M frame without system shutdown.
  • CEC, RS-232, and IR Command Injection — Control signals reach display-side devices over the same CAT6A link as video.
  • Deep Color Support — 24, 30, and 36-bit RGB and YCbCr 4:4:4 output across all ports.

Typical Applications

  • Broadcast studio multi-output distribution from MX2M matrix
  • Boardroom and conference room multi-display routing
  • Auditorium and large venue display distribution infrastructure
  • Government space AV output routing via MX2M
  • Training room distributed display endpoints

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the MX2M-4TPX-OB and the MX2M-4TPX-IB?
The MX2M-4TPX-OB is the output board — it routes signals from the MX2M matrix to TPX receivers and displays. The MX2M-4TPX-IB is the input board — it receives signals from TPX transmitters and sources. Both use the same physical form factor and AVX SDVoE technology.
Which TPX receivers are compatible with this board?
The board is compatible with all Lightware TPX receiver units (including HDMI-TPX-RX106, RX107, and related models) and SDVoE-compliant third-party receivers. Contact Creation Networks for a compatibility matrix specific to your system design.
Can I mix MX2M-4TPX-OB and MX2M-4HDMI20-OB boards in the same MX2M frame?
Yes. The MX2M modular architecture allows different board types to be mixed within the same frame, enabling systems with direct HDMI outputs and TPX/SDVoE outputs simultaneously.
Does the PoE on this board power multiple daisy-chained devices?
No. Each of the four ports provides independent PoE to one connected receiver device. Daisy-chaining is not supported — each port powers exactly one TPX receiver.
What is the meaning of the “non-switchable” designation in the product title?
“Non-switchable” indicates that the board’s video path is managed by the MX2M frame’s crosspoint — the board itself does not contain an independent switcher. Routing decisions are made by the MX2M CPU, not the board’s local circuitry.
Is configuration software required to set up the board?
Initial board configuration and EDID management are performed via the Lightware Device Controller software. After initial setup, the board operates autonomously as part of the MX2M system.
