Product Overview

The Lightware MX2-48x48-DH-48DPi-A-R is a 48x48 4K matrix switcher built for high-density fixed installations where DisplayPort 1.2 sources must route to HDMI 2.0 displays at scale. It delivers uncompressed 4K UHD at 60Hz with RGB 4:4:4 colorspace across 48 DisplayPort inputs and 48 HDMI 2.0 outputs, making it the correct choice for operation centers, control rooms, and large training facilities that have standardized on DP source devices and HDMI displays. The R-type chassis includes dual redundant power supplies and hardened control connectors for continuous-operation environments. Lightware's Pixel Accurate Reclocking and Advanced EDID Management are included and managed through the built-in web interface.

Product Description

The MX2-48x48-DH-48DPi-A-R converts DisplayPort 1.2 input signals internally to HDMI for signal management, enabling direct connection of DP 1.2 sources without adapters or dongles while delivering output to any HDMI 2.0 display. At 18 Gbps per port, the switcher handles 4K UHD at 60Hz across all 48 x 48 crosspoints simultaneously. Signals that exceed the HDMI 2.0 bandwidth are automatically down-converted from 4:4:4 to 4:2:2 while maintaining bit depth, preserving HDR metadata in the signal stream. The unit supports 5K ultrawide at 5120x2160 via HDMI 2.0 (30Hz 4:4:4 or 60Hz 4:2:0), appropriate for simulation and data visualization environments. Audio embedding and de-embedding are handled at dedicated analog audio I/O ports with support for Dolby Atmos, TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio. Note: DP Multi-Stream (MST), Dual-mode DisplayPort (DP++), Adaptive-Sync, FreeSync, and HDR on DisplayPort outputs are not supported.

Key Features

  • 48 DisplayPort 1.2 Inputs, 48 HDMI 2.0 Outputs — Dedicated DP-to-HDMI conversion architecture routes all-DP source environments to standard HDMI display infrastructure without external conversion hardware.
  • 4K UHD at 60Hz, RGB 4:4:4 — Full 4096x2160 at 60Hz with uncompressed colorspace on every crosspoint; auto down-conversion to 4:2:2 preserves HDR compatibility when needed.
  • 5K Ultrawide Support — 5120x2160 via HDMI 2.0 at 30Hz 4:4:4 or 60Hz 4:2:0 for ultrawide display deployments including Microsoft Teams Front Row configurations.
  • 18 Gbps Per Port — Runs at the full HDMI 2.0 specification on every output port, ensuring no bandwidth bottleneck for high-bitrate 4K sources.
  • HDR and Dolby Vision — HDR10 and Low Latency Dolby Vision pass-through on all HDMI outputs.
  • High-Bitrate Audio Support — Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio with audio embedding and de-embedding at dedicated analog ports.
  • HDCP 2.3 and 1.4 Compliant — Cross-conversion between HDCP versions prevents content protection conflicts between sources and displays on different HDCP generations.
  • Pixel Accurate Reclocking — Lightware's proprietary reclocker conditions each signal path individually, eliminating jitter accumulation across 48 simultaneous active routes.
  • Advanced EDID Management — Centralized EDID control via the built-in web interface resolves source/display compatibility conflicts common in large fixed installations.
  • Dual Redundant Power Supplies — Two independent Neutrik Powercon True1 connectors (110/220V) allow the unit to continue operating if one power feed is interrupted.
  • Reinforced Control Interfaces — RS-232 over D-sub 9-pole and Ethernet over Neutrik Ethercon — hardened connectors suited for permanent rack installations.
  • Front-Panel Crosspoint Keys — Direct input-to-output routing available from the front panel without software, useful for live events or system troubleshooting.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the primary difference between the MX2-48x48-DH-48DPi-A-R and the MX2-48x48-DH-48DPio-A-R?
The 48DPi-A-R uses 48 DisplayPort 1.2 inputs and routes to 48 HDMI 2.0 outputs — the correct configuration when your sources are DP-native and your displays use HDMI. The 48DPio-A-R provides full bidirectional DisplayPort on both inputs and outputs, suited for all-DP display environments.
Can the MX2-48x48-DH-48DPi-A-R be controlled without a third-party control system?
Yes. The built-in web interface and front-panel crosspoint keys provide complete routing control independently. The unit also accepts RS-232 and Ethernet commands for integration with Crestron, AMX, Extron, or any IP-capable control system.
How does the switcher handle sources that exceed 18 Gbps bandwidth?
Signals exceeding the HDMI 2.0 bandwidth limit are automatically converted from 4:4:4 to 4:2:2 colorspace while bit depth is preserved. This allows 4K HDR sources with high pixel rates to pass through the matrix without dropping HDR metadata.
Is the R-type power redundancy hot-swappable?
The dual Neutrik Powercon True1 inputs operate independently. If one power source is lost, the unit continues operating from the second input without interruption or manual switching. This is hardware-level redundancy rather than a software-managed failover.
What audio formats are supported?
Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and standard PCM. The switcher has 16 dedicated audio I/O ports for embedding and de-embedding audio from the signal stream.
Does the unit support 5K resolution?
Yes. The MX2-48x48-DH-48DPi-A-R supports 5120x2160 (5K ultrawide) at 30Hz with 4:4:4 colorspace, or at 60Hz with 4:2:0, via HDMI 2.0 outputs.
Where can I purchase the MX2-48x48-DH-48DPi-A-R?
