Product Overview
The Lightware MX2-48x48-DH-24DPio-A-R is a 48x48 4K matrix switcher that combines 24 DisplayPort 1.2 and 24 HDMI 2.0 ports on both its input and output sides — the most flexible configuration in the MX2 48x48 family for environments with mixed signal infrastructure. It supports 4K UHD at 60Hz with RGB 4:4:4 colorspace across all crosspoints and handles 5K ultrawide at 5120x2160 via HDMI 2.0. Designed for large fixed installations, operation centers, and boardrooms where DP and HDMI sources and displays coexist, it eliminates the need for external format conversion. The R-type chassis delivers dual redundant power supplies and hardened RS-232 and Ethernet connectors for permanent installation reliability.
Product Description
The MX2-48x48-DH-24DPio-A-R operates at 18 Gbps per port across its full 48x48 crosspoint matrix, with 24 DisplayPort 1.2 and 24 HDMI 2.0 ports on each side. DisplayPort input signals are converted internally to HDMI for signal management; high-bandwidth signals exceeding 18 Gbps are automatically down-converted from 4:4:4 to 4:2:2 while bit depth is preserved, maintaining HDR transmission capability. The unit supports Dolby Vision, HDR10, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and 3D formats. Audio embedding and de-embedding are available at dedicated ports — 8 analog audio inputs and 24 audio outputs (8 via HDMI + 24 via DP). Lightware's Pixel Accurate Reclocking and Advanced EDID Management are included and configurable from the built-in web interface. Note: DP Multi-Stream (MST), Dual-mode DisplayPort (DP++), Adaptive-Sync, FreeSync, and HDR on DisplayPort outputs are not supported.

Available from Creation Networks, an authorized Lightware reseller.
Key Features
- Mixed DP 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 I/O — 24 DisplayPort 1.2 and 24 HDMI 2.0 ports on both input and output sides provide maximum flexibility for environments with mixed source and display signal types, without external adapters.
- 48x48 Full Crosspoint Matrix — Any of the 48 inputs can be routed to any of the 48 outputs simultaneously, supporting independent signal distribution across all zones.
- 4K UHD at 60Hz, RGB 4:4:4 — Supports 4096x2160 at 60Hz with full-range colorspace across all ports; auto down-conversion to 4:2:2 preserves HDR when bandwidth limits are approached.
- 5K Ultrawide Support — 5120x2160 at 30Hz 4:4:4 or 60Hz 4:2:0 via HDMI 2.0, enabling ultrawide display walls and Microsoft Teams Front Row installations.
- 18 Gbps Per Port — Full HDMI 2.0 bandwidth on every port, supporting high-bitrate 4K content without signal compromise.
- HDR and Dolby Vision — HDR10 and Low Latency Dolby Vision pass-through on HDMI outputs.
- High-Bitrate Audio — Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio with 8 analog audio inputs and 24 audio outputs (8xHDMI + 24xDP embedded).
- HDCP 2.3 and 1.4 Compliant — Cross-conversion between HDCP versions eliminates content protection mismatch between different generation sources and displays.
- Pixel Accurate Reclocking — Per-port signal conditioning removes jitter and maintains signal integrity across all 48 active routes simultaneously.
- Advanced EDID Management — Centralized EDID assignment via the built-in web interface prevents source/display resolution negotiation failures.
- Dual Redundant Power — Two independent Neutrik Powercon True1 connectors (110/220V) provide hardware-level power redundancy for mission-critical uptime.
- Front-Panel Crosspoint Switching — Direct routing control from the front panel without requiring a control system or software connection.

Frequently Asked Questions
- How does the MX2-48x48-DH-24DPio-A-R differ from the other MX2 48x48 models?
- The 24DPio-A-R provides 24 DisplayPort 1.2 and 24 HDMI 2.0 ports on both input and output sides — the most flexible configuration for mixed-signal environments. The 48DPi-A-R uses all-DP inputs to HDMI outputs. The 48DPio-A-R uses all-DP on both sides. Choose the 24DPio when your installation includes a mix of DP and HDMI sources and displays.
- Does this unit require adapters for DisplayPort sources?
- No. The 24 dedicated DisplayPort 1.2 input ports accept DP sources directly. HDMI sources connect to the 24 HDMI 2.0 input ports. No external adapters or dongles are required for either signal type.
- Can I route a DisplayPort source to an HDMI output and vice versa?
- Yes. The 48x48 crosspoint matrix allows any input (DP or HDMI) to be routed to any output (DP or HDMI). DisplayPort inputs are internally converted to HDMI for signal management before routing.
- What happens to HDR signals in the switching path?
- HDR pass-through is maintained on HDMI outputs. When a signal exceeds 18 Gbps bandwidth, the switcher automatically converts from 4:4:4 to 4:2:2 while preserving bit depth, keeping HDR metadata intact. HDR is not passed through on DisplayPort outputs.
- What is the audio I/O configuration?
- The MX2-48x48-DH-24DPio-A-R has 8 audio inputs and 24 audio outputs. Audio inputs include 8xHDMI embedded and 8xDP dedicated channels. Audio outputs include 8xHDMI embedded and 24xDP embedded channels. The unit supports embedding and de-embedding at dedicated analog audio I/O ports.
- Is a control system required to operate this switcher?
- No. The built-in web interface and front-panel crosspoint keys allow full operation without a control system. For integration with Crestron, AMX, or other platforms, the unit accepts RS-232 and Ethernet commands.
