Product Overview
The Lightware MX2-24x24-HDMI20-R is a 24-input, 24-output standalone HDMI 2.0 matrix switcher delivering uncompressed 4K UHD at 60Hz with full RGB 4:4:4 color depth. Positioned at the top of Lightware's all-HDMI standalone switcher line, this R-type unit adds dual redundant power via Neutrik Powercon True1 connectors and reinforced RS-232 and Ethernet ports, making it the preferred choice when maximum port count and operational reliability must coexist. The switcher is suited for large-scale fixed installations, command centers, and rental/staging applications where 24 simultaneous 4K60 HDMI sources and destinations are required without a modular chassis. AV designers specifying a 24x24 HDMI 2.0 matrix switcher with redundant power for mission-critical environments will find this unit purpose-built for that requirement.
Product Description
The MX2-24x24-HDMI20-R routes any of its 24 HDMI 2.0 inputs to any of its 24 HDMI 2.0 outputs simultaneously using a non-blocking crosspoint at 18 Gbps per port. All ports transmit up to 4K UHD at 60Hz in 4:4:4 format, with 3D, Dolby TrueHD, and DTS-HD Master Audio pass-through on every route. The unit now supports HDMI 5K formats (5120x2160 at 30Hz 4:4:4 or 60Hz 4:2:0), expanding its utility for ultrawide display deployments and collaboration platforms such as Microsoft Teams Front Row. Proprietary Lightware technologies—Pixel Accurate Reclocking, Frame Detector, and Advanced EDID Management—are built in and accessible via the integrated web interface. The R-type designation means both mains connectors and all data ports use rugged Neutrik components designed to withstand the physical demands of touring productions and permanent high-use installations.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the MX2-24x24-HDMI20-R and the non-R version?
- The R designation adds dual redundant Neutrik Powercon True1 power inputs and reinforced Neutrik Ethercon and rugged RS-232 connectors. The non-R model uses a standard IEC power connector. Choose the R version for rental/staging or any application where connector durability and power redundancy are required.
- Can this matrix switch 4K60 signals without any compression?
- Yes. All 48 ports operate at 18 Gbps, passing 4K UHD at 60Hz in full RGB 4:4:4 uncompressed. No compression, scaling, or format conversion is applied unless explicitly configured for downconversion.
- How is the unit controlled?
- The MX2-24x24-HDMI20-R supports control via Ethernet (built-in web interface and LDC software), RS-232, and USB (mini USB B). Front-panel keys allow manual crosspoint switching. Third-party control systems including Crestron and AMX can communicate via TCP/IP or serial.
- Does it support HDMI ARC or eARC?
- No. The MX2 series is designed for professional AV signal distribution and does not implement consumer HDMI features such as ARC or eARC.
- What audio formats are supported?
- The unit passes Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and 3D audio embedded in the HDMI stream. It does not perform audio embedding or de-embedding on this model — see the MX2-24x24-HDMI20-Audio for analog audio I/O.
- Is the unit suitable for government or secure facilities?
- Yes. The MX2 series is deployed in government operations centers and secure environments. For TEMPEST-certified requirements, refer to the MX2-16x16-HDMI20-Audio which carries SDIP27 Level B certification.
