Product Overview

The Lightware MX2-16x8-HDMI20-Audio-R is a 16-input, 8-output standalone HDMI 2.0 matrix switcher combining full 4K60 4:4:4 video routing with dedicated analog audio embedding and de-embedding ports, plus the dual redundant Neutrik Powercon power supplies of the R-type platform. The asymmetric 16x8 crosspoint serves installations where more sources than destinations are typical—such as media production rooms, control rooms, and multi-source presentation environments routing to a smaller set of displays or processors. Four analog stereo inputs embed audio into the HDMI stream; eight audio outputs (four adjacent to HDMI + four independent) provide de-embedded LPCM audio to amplifiers and DSPs independently of video routing. The R-type rugged connectors make this unit suitable for touring productions as well as fixed installations.

Product Description

The MX2-16x8-HDMI20-Audio-R uses a 16x8+4 non-blocking crosspoint at 18 Gbps per port, routing any of 16 HDMI 2.0 inputs to any of 8 HDMI 2.0 outputs simultaneously. All ports pass 4K at 60Hz in 4:4:4 format with Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and 3D audio. HDMI 5K (5120x2160), HDR, and Dolby Vision are supported. The audio section provides 4 stereo balanced input ports (5-pole Phoenix, adjacent to HDMI inputs) for embedding and 8 audio output ports (4 adjacent to HDMI outputs + 4 independent, 5-pole Phoenix) for de-embedding LPCM from any input. Dual Neutrik Powercon mains connectors, Neutrik Ethercon, and rugged D-sub 9 RS-232 are standard on the R-type build. Control via Ethernet, RS-232, and USB.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why would I choose a 16x8 matrix instead of a 16x16?
When a project has significantly more sources than destinations—for example, 12-16 playback devices, computers, and cameras feeding 6-8 displays or processing units—the 16x8 configuration reduces cost while maintaining full routing flexibility. Every input can still reach every output; only the total number of simultaneous output paths differs.
Can any input be routed to any output on the 16x8 model?
Yes. The crosspoint is fully non-blocking: any of the 16 inputs can be routed to any or all of the 8 video outputs and 8 audio outputs simultaneously.
What are the 4 independent audio outputs used for?
The 4 independent audio output connectors carry de-embedded LPCM audio from any input you assign via software, independent of which video source is routed to the adjacent HDMI output. This enables audio-follows-video configurations or fully breakaway audio zone routing.
Where can I purchase the MX2-16x8-HDMI20-Audio-R?
