Product Overview

The Lightware MX2-16x16-DH-8DPi-A-R is a 16-input, 16-output standalone matrix switcher that accepts both DisplayPort 1.2 and HDMI 2.0 sources natively, adds dedicated analog audio embedding and de-embedding ports, and delivers all of this with dual redundant Neutrik Powercon power supplies. With 8 DisplayPort 1.2 inputs and 8 HDMI 2.0 inputs routed to 16 HDMI 2.0 outputs, this unit covers the widest range of signal types in a 16x16 standalone configuration. It is purpose-built for boardrooms, training centers, and broadcast facilities where laptop-heavy environments generate a mix of DP and HDMI sources alongside a requirement for analog audio breakout to DSPs or amplifiers. The R-type rugged connectors make it equally suitable for touring and rental applications.

Product Description

The MX2-16x16-DH-8DPi-A-R operates at 18 Gbps per port across all 16 inputs and 16 outputs, with DisplayPort 1.2 inputs converted internally to HDMI for signal management through the crosspoint. Input signals exceeding HDMI 2.0 bandwidth are downconverted to 4:2:2 YCbCr while preserving bit depth, enabling HDR transmission. The analog audio section provides 8 HDMI-adjacent audio input connectors for embedding (4xH format) and 4 HDMI-adjacent plus 4 independent audio output connectors for de-embedding (4xH + 4xA). The unit supports 5K signal formats, HDR, Dolby Vision, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and 3D. DP Multi-Stream (MST), Dual-mode DisplayPort (DP++), Adaptive-Sync, FreeSync, and HDR on DisplayPort outputs are not supported.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the MX2-16x16-DH-8DPi-A-R accept Thunderbolt 3 sources?
Thunderbolt 3 is electrically compatible with DisplayPort 1.2. A Thunderbolt 3 to DisplayPort cable will connect to the DP inputs. Note that DP MST, Adaptive-Sync, and FreeSync are not supported, and HDR on DisplayPort outputs is not available on this unit.
How are the audio inputs and outputs arranged?
The 8 audio input connectors are positioned adjacent to HDMI input ports (4xH format). Of the 8 audio output connectors, 4 are adjacent to HDMI output ports and 4 are independent connectors, allowing de-embedded audio to be sent to any destination regardless of video routing.
What is the 4:2:2 downconversion used for on DP inputs?
When a DisplayPort source sends a signal with bandwidth exceeding HDMI 2.0 limits (e.g., 4K60 RGB 4:4:4 10-bit), the matrix downconverts to 4:2:2 YCbCr while preserving bit depth. This allows HDR metadata to pass through on HDMI outputs even when DP sources exceed the 18 Gbps HDMI 2.0 limit.
Can this unit be used in both rental and permanent install?
Yes. The R-type designation adds rugged Neutrik Powercon True1 power connectors and reinforced Ethercon and D-sub 9 RS-232 connectors for touring use. The same unit works equally well in permanent rack installations.
Where can I purchase the MX2-16x16-DH-8DPi-A-R?
