Product Overview
The Lightware MX-TPS2-OB-AP is an 8-channel TPS2 (HDBaseT) output board for MX series modular matrix frames, providing HDMI 1.4, audio, Ethernet, and RS-232 transmission over a single CAT5/6/7 cable per channel — with an optional built-in PoE injector for remote extender powering and analog audio connectors for HDMI audio de-embedding. It is the full-featured TPS2 output board within the MX platform, combining long-distance signal extension (up to 170m at Full HD in Long Reach mode) with local audio management and remote device control in a single board slot. AV integrators building out an MX modular matrix for conference rooms, training facilities, or corporate campuses who require HDBaseT output boards with PoE and analog audio for modular matrix systems will find this board consolidates infrastructure otherwise requiring separate injectors and audio DSP at each output run.
Product Description
The MX-TPS2-OB-AP installs in any MX series frame slot and provides 8 TPS2 output channels, each carrying HDMI 1.4 (up to 4K/UHD 30Hz RGB 4:4:4, 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:0) over a single CAT5e, CAT6, or CAT7 cable. Bi-directional RS-232 and Ethernet are carried on the same cable to each endpoint, enabling control of remote displays and LAN connectivity extension without additional cable infrastructure. Maximum extension distances reach 100m (CAT5e AWG24), 90m (CAT7 AWG26), or 120m (CAT7 AWG23) in standard mode, and up to 170m in Long Reach mode at Full HD pixel clocks (≤148.5 MHz).

The analog audio add-on (AP suffix) provides stereo balanced 5-pole Phoenix connectors at each output position. Audio volume control (-78 to 0 dB), gain (0–24 dB at inputs), and balance are adjustable per channel. The built-in PoE injector function (48V) requires the PSU-48vp external power supply connected directly to the board; standard output extension distances are reduced by approximately 20% when PoE powering is active on AWG26 cable. HDCP enable/disable mode, Pixel Accurate Reclocking, Advanced EDID Management, Frame Detector, and PCM audio sample rate conversion are all integrated.
Key Features
- 8-Channel TPS2 (HDBaseT) Outputs — HDMI 1.4, audio, Ethernet, and RS-232 over single CAT per channel; installs in any MX series frame slot.
- Analog Audio De-embedding (AP Suffix) — Stereo balanced 5-pole Phoenix connectors per output for direct amplifier or DSP connection.
- Built-in PoE Injector (Optional) — 48V remote powering for TPS extenders; eliminates external PoE injectors per run.
- Up to 170m Extension (Long Reach Mode) — Full HD over CAT7 AWG23; 100m at 4K 30Hz on CAT5e.
- Bi-directional RS-232 per Channel — Remote display and projector control through the TPS cable run.
- Ethernet per Channel — LAN extension to each endpoint over the TPS infrastructure.
- Pixel Accurate Reclocking — Signal re-timing eliminates jitter before transmission to remote endpoints.
- HDCP Enable/Disable Mode — Configurable HDCP state per output for flexible source-display compatibility management.
- PCM Audio Sample Rate Conversion — Ensures audio compatibility between sources and displays with different sample rate requirements.
- Deep Color, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Support — Full HDMI audio format compatibility on the signal path.
- Volume and Gain Control — Per-channel audio level management (-78 to 0 dB volume; 0–24 dB gain at inputs).
Typical Applications
- Conference room
- Training room
- Boardroom
- All-hands room
- House of worship

Frequently Asked Questions
- What MX frames is the MX-TPS2-OB-AP compatible with?
- Compatible with all MX series frames: MX-FR9, MX-FR9R, MX-FR17, MX-FR17R, MX-FR33R, MX-FR33L, MX-FR65R, and MX-FR80R.
- Is PoE included by default or is it optional?
- PoE capability is built into the board but requires an external PSU-48vp power supply (sold separately) to be connected directly to the board. The PoE function is not activated until the external PSU is connected.
- What is the Long Reach mode and when does it apply?
- Long Reach mode extends cable reach to 170m on CAT7 AWG23 cable, but only for signals with pixel clock frequencies at or below 148.5 MHz (Full HD 1080p 24bpp or lower). Resolutions with higher pixel clocks (4K 30Hz, 4K 60Hz, 1920x1200, 1600x1200) are not supported in Long Reach mode.
- Does PoE operation reduce extension distance?
- Yes. Extension distances are approximately 20% shorter when remote PoE powering is active. AWG26 cable is not recommended when PoE is in use.
- What is the difference between MX-TPS2-OB-AP and MX-TPS2-OB-P?
- The AP suffix adds analog audio (balanced stereo Phoenix connectors). The P suffix provides PoE and TPS output without analog audio connectors. For installations where audio de-embedding is not needed at the matrix output board, the -P variant is appropriate.
