Product Overview
The Lightware MX-TPS2-IB-P is a second-generation TPS input board with Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability, designed for Lightware MX-FR series modular matrix frames. It receives HDMI video, audio, and control signals over a single CAT cable from a remote TPS2 transmitter at up to 100 m, while supplying PoE power to connected TPS2 transmitter devices at the source location. This board is the correct input board for installations pairing with MX-TPS2-OB-P output boards, or for any MX-FR system where remote TPS2 wallplates and transmitters need to be powered over the same CAT cable carrying their HDMI signal.
Product Description
The MX-TPS2-IB-P accepts HDMI signals transmitted from a compatible Lightware TPS2 transmitter over CAT5e/6/7 cable, receiving them into the MX-FR frame's crosspoint matrix for routing to any output board in the system. The integrated PoE output on the CAT port supplies power to the remote TPS2 transmitter, eliminating local power supplies at the source location. Bidirectional IR and RS-232 control signals pass over the same cable, allowing source device control from the matrix side. Ethernet pass-through provides LAN access at the transmitter location. EDID is managed per port by the MX-FR frame's control system. The TPS2 generation provides improved signal reliability over first-generation TPS boards, particularly in longer cable installations.

Key Features
- TPS2 HDBaseT Input — Receives HDMI video, audio, and control over a single CAT5e/6/7 cable from TPS2 transmitters at up to 100 m.
- PoE Power Output — Supplies IEEE 802.3af/at PoE power to connected TPS2 transmitters over the same CAT cable, eliminating remote power supplies.
- MX Frame Integration — Installs in any input slot of MX-FR series frames for full matrix crosspoint routing.
- Bidirectional Control Extension — IR and RS-232 pass bidirectionally over the CAT cable for source device control from the matrix side.
- Ethernet Pass-Through — LAN connectivity supplied to the transmitter location over the same CAT cable.
- Per-Port EDID Management — EDID managed per input port for accurate source resolution negotiation.
- CAT5e/6/7 Compatible — Operates over standard structured cabling infrastructure.
Typical Applications
- Conference room presenter input over HDBaseT with powered wallplate transmitter
- Training room instructor station receiving and powering TPS2 transmitter via CAT cable
- Boardroom with powered TPS2 source points at presenter tables
- Government and education facilities with centralized matrix and remote powered transmitters

Frequently Asked Questions
- What distinguishes the MX-TPS2-IB-P from the MX-TPS-IB?
- The MX-TPS2-IB-P uses second-generation TPS2 technology with improved reliability, and includes PoE output to power connected TPS2 transmitters. The standard MX-TPS-IB is first-generation without PoE.
- Can this board power TPS transmitters at the source end?
- Yes. PoE power is supplied over the CAT cable to connected TPS2 transmitters, eliminating the need for local power supplies at presenter tables or source locations.
- Is bidirectional RS-232 supported?
- Yes. RS-232 passes in both directions over the CAT cable, allowing control of source devices from the matrix location and vice versa.
- What frame is this board compatible with?
- Compatible with all Lightware MX-FR series frames, including the MX-FR9.
- Does this board require a matching TPS2 transmitter?
- Yes. For PoE functionality, the remote transmitter must be a compatible TPS2 device. Standard TPS (first-generation) transmitters may also work for signal reception but will not receive PoE power.
