Lightware MX-DVI-4K-OB – 8-Channel DVI/HDMI 4K Output Board for MX Series Matrix

Product Overview

The Lightware MX-DVI-4K-OB is an 8-channel DVI output board for the Lightware MX series modular matrix routers, providing DVI-I connectors that support DVI 1.0, HDMI 1.4, and HDCP-encrypted signals with 4K UHD capability. The board installs in MX-FR series frame output slots and adds 8 DVI output channels per card, suitable for installations with DVI-equipped displays, projectors, or downstream AV equipment requiring DVI connectivity in a modular matrix environment. Integrators building a Lightware MX series modular matrix with DVI output boards for mixed DVI/HDMI display environments in government, broadcast, or control room applications will find the MX-DVI-4K-OB a precise match. Purchase at Creation Networks.

Product Description

The MX-DVI-4K-OB provides 8 DVI-I output channels per board slot in Lightware MX-FR series modular matrix frames. Each output carries DVI and HDMI 1.4 signals with HDCP, supporting 4K UHD at 30Hz 4:4:4 or 4K@60Hz YUV 4:2:0 (up to 9 Gbps). Screw-lockable DVI connectors on each output provide physical security against accidental disconnection in permanent installation environments.

Lightware MX-DVI-4K-OB DVI output board

The board fully supports HDMI 1.4 signals with embedded multichannel audio pass-through from the matrix to DVI-connected displays when used with an HDMI-to-DVI-compatible display or adapter. Advanced signal processing features include Pixel Accurate Reclocking, HDMI-to-DVI conversion, color space conversion (RGB and YUV per output), color range scaling, 12-bit Deep Color, 3D format support (frame packing, side-by-side, top-and-bottom), and PCM audio sample rate conversion.

Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio formats are supported for routing to audio-capable DVI/HDMI receivers. Input cable equalization at 40 dB supports longer input cable runs from the matrix frame to source equipment. Power draw is 28.2W typical / 39.3W maximum from the MX frame. Purchase the MX-DVI-4K-OB at Creation Networks.

Key Features

  • 8 DVI-I Outputs per Board — Provides 8 screw-lockable DVI-I output channels per MX-FR slot, supporting DVI 1.0 and HDMI 1.4 signal types with HDCP.
  • 4K UHD Output — Supports 4K UHD at 30Hz 4:4:4 or 60Hz YUV 4:2:0 at up to 9 Gbps — suitable for 4K display endpoints over DVI infrastructure.
  • HDMI 1.4 Audio Pass-Through — Passes HDMI embedded multichannel audio (including Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD) to HDMI-capable downstream equipment connected via DVI.
  • 12-Bit Deep Color — Supports 12-bit per channel color depth for color-critical display and visualization applications.
  • Full 3D Format Support — Outputs frame packing, side-by-side, and top-and-bottom 3D signals for 3D display environments.
  • Pixel Accurate Reclocking — Per-output reclocking ensures signal integrity at each DVI output without external repeaters.
  • Color Space and Range Conversion — Converts between RGB and YUV color spaces per output; color range scaling maintains correct levels for display compatibility.
  • PCM Audio Sample Rate Conversion — On-board SRC handles audio sample rate differences between source and display without external audio processing.
  • 40 dB Input Cable Equalization — Compensates for cable losses on longer signal runs between source equipment and the MX frame input.
  • Screw-Lock DVI Connectors — Each DVI-I output uses a screw-lock connector for secure and reliable connections in permanent installation environments.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the MX-DVI-4K-OB output HDMI signals to HDMI displays?
Yes. The DVI-I connectors are fully HDMI 1.4 compatible. Standard DVI-to-HDMI adapters or cables allow connection to HDMI-input displays. Embedded audio passes through to HDMI-capable displays when using an adapter that carries the audio channel.
Does the board support 4K at 60Hz?
The board supports 4K UHD at 60Hz only in YUV 4:2:0 color format at up to 9 Gbps, which is within HDMI 1.4 bandwidth. For full 4K@60Hz 4:4:4, the MX2M-4HDMI20-OB (HDMI 2.0 board) is the appropriate choice.
Are the DVI connectors physically secured to prevent accidental pull-out?
Yes. Each DVI-I output connector on the MX-DVI-4K-OB is screw-lockable, providing a mechanical retention mechanism that prevents accidental disconnection in permanent installation environments such as rack-mounted equipment rooms.
Which MX-FR frames accept the MX-DVI-4K-OB?
The MX-DVI-4K-OB is compatible with the full range of Lightware MX-FR modular matrix frames: MX-FR9, MX-FR9R, MX-FR17, MX-FR17R, MX-FR33L, MX-FR33R, MX-FR65R, and MX-FR80R. Each frame slot accommodates one board providing 8 DVI output channels.
Can color space conversion be set individually per output?
Yes. Color space conversion between RGB and YUV, as well as color range scaling, is configurable per individual output channel through the MX series management software, allowing mixed display environments to be handled from a single board.
Where can I purchase the Lightware MX-DVI-4K-OB?
The MX-DVI-4K-OB is available at Creation Networks, an authorized Lightware reseller for modular matrix I/O boards and MX-FR series frames.
