Product Overview
The Lightware MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB-P is a combination output board designed for use in Lightware modular matrix systems, delivering four HDMI 1.4 outputs alongside four HDBaseT (TPS) single-CAT outputs with integrated Power over Ethernet (PoE). This board is the preferred choice for integrators deploying large-format HDMI and HDBaseT matrix distribution in corporate boardrooms, government facilities, and higher education lecture halls. It supports 4K/UHD video, Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD audio, and extends signals up to 170 meters over a single CAT5/6/7 cable — making it a dependable output board for HDBaseT matrix extender installations with PoE remote powering requirements.
Product Description
The MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB-P installs into Lightware's MX modular matrix chassis and provides eight simultaneous output paths: four via HDMI 1.4 connectors and four via RJ45 TPS (HDBaseT) ports. The PoE add-on supplies 48V DC remote power to connected TPS extenders, eliminating the need for local power at each endpoint and simplifying cable runs in fixed installations. Transmission over TPS reaches 120 meters in standard HDBaseT mode and 170 meters in Long Reach mode, with Full HD maintained at maximum extension. The board handles 4K/UHD at 30Hz RGB 4:4:4 and 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:0, as well as 1080p at 120Hz and resolutions up to 2560x1600 and 2048x2048. Embedded 10/100 Ethernet is carried over the same CAT cable, supporting networked endpoint devices without additional infrastructure. Lightware's Pixel Accurate Reclocking removes jitter accumulated across the signal chain, and Advanced EDID Management enforces source resolution compliance.
Key Features
- Dual output format — Four HDMI 1.4 and four HDBaseT TPS outputs on a single board, supporting mixed destination environments.
- PoE 48V remote powering — Powers connected TPS extenders over CAT cable, reducing endpoint wiring complexity and cost.
- 170-meter TPS extension — Long Reach mode extends Full HD signals up to 170m over CAT5/6/7; 120m in standard HDBaseT mode.
- 4K/UHD support — Handles 3840x2160 at 30Hz RGB 4:4:4 and 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:0, plus 1080p at 120Hz.
- 10/100 Ethernet over TPS — Delivers Ethernet to endpoints over the same CAT cable as video and audio.
- Pixel Accurate Reclocking — Lightware proprietary technology that eliminates jitter and signal degradation from long cable runs and daisy-chained devices.
- Advanced EDID Management — Locks EDID per input to enforce resolution and format compliance across sources.
- HDMI audio support — Compatible with Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and all HDMI 1.4 embedded audio formats.
- HDCP compliant — Operates with and without HDCP, supporting DVI sources and protected content simultaneously.
- Frame Detector — Monitors signal integrity and provides real-time status feedback for troubleshooting.
- PoE remote power switching — Allows remote on/off control of powered TPS endpoints from the matrix control interface.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What matrix chassis is the MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB-P compatible with?
- This output board is designed for use in Lightware MX series modular matrix frames. It is not compatible with third-party chassis.
- Does the PoE function require an external power supply?
- Yes. The built-in PoE injector requires the Lightware PSU-48vp external power source connected directly to the board to supply 48V to TPS endpoints.
- What is the maximum resolution in Long Reach mode?
- Long Reach mode supports Full HD (1920x1080p) at up to 170m. 4K UHD is limited to standard HDBaseT distances (up to 120m).
- Can this board be used without the PoE feature?
- Yes. The MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB (without -P suffix) is the same board without the PoE add-on, available at a lower price point.
- Does the board support RS-232 pass-through over TPS?
- Yes. RS-232 is transmitted bidirectionally over the HDBaseT TPS connection alongside video, audio, and Ethernet.
- Is HDCP required on the source for this board to operate?
- No. The board operates with or without HDCP, making it compatible with both protected and unprotected sources including DVI devices.
- Where can I purchase the MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB-P?
