Product Overview
The Lightware MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB-AP is a combination output board for the Lightware MX modular matrix router series, providing four HDMI and four HDBaseT single-CAT outputs with analog audio support and Power over Ethernet (PoE) delivery to connected TPS receiver extenders. As the output-side counterpart to the MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-IB-AP, this board is the premium output card in the MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB family — powering remote TPS receiver displays through the same CAT cable that carries the video, audio, Ethernet, and RS-232 signals. This eliminates the need for local AC power at each remote display or TPS receiver location. Target keywords: Lightware MX modular matrix HDMI HDBaseT output board PoE analog audio, MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB-AP TPS HDMI output PoE, Lightware MX-FR output card PoE HDBaseT.
Product Description
The MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB-AP provides eight output channels per card — four HDMI 1.4 direct outputs and four HDBaseT (TPS) single-CAT outputs — with the PoE function powering compatible TPS receivers through the same CAT cable. Signal extension over CAT5/6/7 cable reaches 120m in HDBaseT mode and 170m in Long Reach mode (Full HD maximum in Long Reach). The integral PoE injector requires the PSU-48vp external 48V power supply connected directly to the board.

The board supports 4K UHD at 30Hz RGB 4:4:4 and 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:0, with 48-bit deep color, 3D signal handling, and HDCP compliance. The ‘-A’ component provides balanced analog audio de-embedding at output stage. Bi-directional RS-232 and Ethernet are delivered on each TPS output port, and per-port Advanced EDID Management with Pixel Accurate Reclocking ensures signal integrity to remote displays. A 10/100 Ethernet uplink per board provides network connectivity for the board's management functions.
Key Features
- 4x HDMI 1.4 outputs — direct connections to local HDMI displays
- 4x HDBaseT (TPS) outputs — single CAT5/6/7 to remote TPS receivers, up to 120m/170m
- PoE delivery to TPS receivers — powers remote extenders through CAT cable, no local AC supply at display endpoint
- PSU-48vp required for PoE — 48V external power supply connects to the board
- Analog audio de-embedding — balanced analog audio outputs for audio extraction at the output stage
- 4K UHD support — 4K@30Hz 4:4:4 / 4K@60Hz 4:2:0, 48-bit color
- HDCP compliant — per-port HDCP control
- Bi-directional RS-232 and Ethernet via TPS — control and data over CAT cable
- Pixel Accurate Reclocking — output signal quality restoration
- Advanced EDID management — per-port EDID emulation and locking at output
- Dolby TrueHD and DTS-HD MA support — embedded audio format handling
Typical Applications
- Conference rooms with PoE-powered remote display receivers
- Boardrooms where local AC power at display endpoints is impractical
- Training rooms with distributed remote TPS displays
- Corporate AV infrastructure minimizing power cabling at endpoints
- Government facility AV output distribution with PoE simplification

Frequently Asked Questions
- Which TPS receivers are compatible with the PoE output?
- Lightware HDBaseT-compatible TPS receivers that accept PoE input are compatible. This includes various HDMI-TPS-RX series units. Confirm PoE input support on the specific receiver model during system design.
- Is the PSU-48vp included with this board?
- No. The PSU-48vp must be purchased separately and connected directly to the board to enable PoE delivery. Without it, the board operates fully except for PoE output.
- What is the maximum resolution over TPS in HDBaseT mode?
- Up to 4K UHD at 30Hz RGB 4:4:4 or 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:0 in standard HDBaseT mode at distances up to 120m. Long Reach mode extends distance to 170m but limits resolution to Full HD.
- Can OB-AP and OB-A boards be mixed in the same frame?
- Yes. Different output board variants can occupy different slots within the same MX-FR frame, allowing selective PoE deployment only in zones where it is needed.
- What Ethernet speed is available on the TPS ports?
- Each TPS port carries 10/100 Ethernet bidirectionally over the CAT cable alongside the video and control signals. This supports network-connected endpoint devices at the display location.
- Where can I purchase this board?
- The MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-OB-AP is available from Creation Networks, an authorized Lightware commercial AV reseller.
