Product Overview
The Lightware MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-IB is the base combination input board for Lightware MX series modular matrix chassis, accepting four HDMI 1.4 inputs and four HDBaseT (TPS) single-CAT inputs without PoE. It receives signals from local HDMI sources and remote TPS transmitters at up to 170 meters over a single CAT5/6/7 cable, passing video, audio, Ethernet, and bi-directional RS-232 into the matrix. This is the standard input board for installations where PoE powering of remote TPS transmitters is handled separately or not required.
Product Description
The MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-IB occupies one input board slot in a Lightware MX modular matrix chassis, contributing four HDMI 1.4 inputs and four RJ45 HDBaseT TPS inputs to the matrix crosspoint. Standard HDBaseT mode receives signals from up to 120 meters over CAT5/6/7 at 4K/UHD resolution; Long Reach mode extends reception to 170 meters at Full HD. The board handles 4K/UHD at 30Hz RGB 4:4:4 and 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:0, plus 3D signals at 120Hz and up to 48-bit deep color. Each TPS port includes a 10/100 Ethernet uplink connector for network connectivity. Bi-directional RS-232 passes over the TPS link for remote endpoint control. Lightware's Pixel Accurate Reclocking removes jitter from HDMI and TPS sources before routing, and Advanced EDID Management enforces correct resolution output from each source. HDCP can be enabled or disabled per port, providing flexibility for both protected and unprotected source devices. Optional audio add-ons (analog -A or S/PDIF -S) are available as separate board variants for installations requiring advanced audio handling on the input side.
Key Features
- Dual input format — Four HDMI 1.4 and four HDBaseT TPS inputs in a single board slot for mixed local and remote sources.
- 170-meter TPS reception — Long Reach mode accepts Full HD signals from 170m; standard HDBaseT supports 120m with 4K.
- 4K/UHD and 3D support — Handles 3840x2160@30Hz 4:4:4, 60Hz 4:2:0, 120Hz 3D, and 48-bit deep color.
- 10/100 Ethernet uplink per TPS port — Individual network uplink connector per TPS port for endpoint Ethernet connectivity.
- Bi-directional RS-232 over TPS — Serial control passes over the HDBaseT link for remote device management.
- Pixel Accurate Reclocking — Removes jitter and skew from incoming HDMI and TPS sources before matrix routing.
- Advanced EDID Management — Per-port EDID lock forces correct resolution from any source device.
- HDCP enable/disable per port — Selective HDCP control for compatibility with protected and unprotected sources simultaneously.
- HDMI embedded audio support — Full support for Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD Master Audio, and all HDMI 1.4 embedded audio formats.
- Frame Detector — Monitors incoming signal integrity and provides real-time diagnostic status.
- Audio add-on variants — Analog (-A) or S/PDIF (-S) audio add-on board variants available for advanced audio input handling.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the MX-4TPS2-4HDMI-IB and the -IB-P?
- The base -IB does not include PoE. The -IB-P adds 48V PoE injector capability to power remote TPS transmitters over the CAT cable, requiring the Lightware PSU-48vp external power supply connected directly to the board.
- Can this board accept sources from both HDMI and TPS simultaneously?
- Yes. All eight input ports are active simultaneously. Any input can be routed to any output independently within the MX matrix crosspoint.
- Does Long Reach mode work with 4K sources?
- No. Long Reach mode is limited to Full HD 1080p at up to 170m. 4K sources require standard HDBaseT mode at distances up to 120m.
- Are audio add-ons field-upgradeable?
- No. Audio add-on variants (-A for analog, -S for S/PDIF) are separate board versions that must be specified at purchase. They are not field-installable add-ons.
- Is HDCP required for the board to pass video?
- No. HDCP can be enabled or disabled per port, allowing the board to handle both HDCP-protected and unprotected sources simultaneously.
- What uplink connector is on each TPS port?
- Each TPS port includes a 10/100 Ethernet uplink RJ45 connector that provides a separate network connection for the endpoint device at the TPS source location.
