Product Overview

The Lightware MMX8x8-HT440 is a standalone 8x8 matrix switcher engineered specifically for conference room AV infrastructure, combining four HDMI 1.4 and four TPS2 (HDBaseT) inputs with four HDMI and four TPS2 outputs — plus eight balanced analog audio ports, built-in PoE for remote extender powering, and an extensive multi-port control suite. It is the highest-capability model in the MMX8x8-HT series, offering the most control ports (bidirectional RS-232, Ethernet injection, IR, relay, and GPIO) in the MMX conference room matrix lineup. AV integrators specifying a conference room HDBaseT HDMI matrix switcher with audio and multi-port control for mid-to-large meeting spaces, training rooms, or collaborative education environments will find the MMX8x8-HT440 covers the full control requirement without an external control processor.

Product Description

The MMX8x8-HT440 routes uncompressed 4K/UHD video (30Hz RGB 4:4:4, 60Hz YCbCr 4:2:0) and 3D signals with full HDCP compliance. TPS2 ports extend HDMI 1.4 video, audio, Ethernet, and RS-232 over a single CAT6 or CAT7 cable: up to 100m in standard HDBaseT mode, 120m on CAT7 AWG23, and up to 170m in Long Reach mode for Full HD signals. PoE 48V is available on every I/O TPS port for cost-effective extender powering without separate injectors.

Eight balanced 5-pole Phoenix audio connectors provide bidirectional analog audio at four input and four output positions (both TPS2 and HDMI). Port audio direction is software-configurable via Lightware Device Controller. The built-in Event Manager enables automated switching triggered by RS-232, IR, Ethernet, relay, or GPIO events — providing conference room automation without a dedicated control processor in many installations. Four relay outputs and a 6-pin GPIO port extend integration to room control systems, displays, and room scheduling platforms.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between MMX8x8-HT440 and MMX8x8-HT080?
Both models have the same 8x8 matrix and TPS2/HDMI I/O configuration. The HT440 includes 8 balanced analog audio ports (both input and output sides), while the HT080 omits the analog audio ports. The HT440 is the appropriate choice when analog audio embedding, de-embedding, or local audio zone feeds are required in the room design.
Can the Event Manager replace a dedicated control system?
For conference rooms with straightforward automation — switching inputs based on signal detection, controlling displays via RS-232, activating relays for screen drops — the Event Manager can operate the room without a separate control processor. For complex multi-room, scheduling-integrated, or UI-driven control, a dedicated control system remains appropriate.
What cable type is recommended for 170m TPS extension?
CAT7 AWG23 SFTP cable is recommended for achieving the 170m Long Reach extension distance at Full HD (148.5 MHz pixel clock). Long Reach mode is not supported for resolutions with pixel clocks above 148.5 MHz.
Is PoE available without an external power supply?
PoE 48V is available on all TPS I/O ports. The built-in PoE injector function requires the supplied PSU-48vp external power source connected directly to the board — it is not drawn from the matrix power supply.
How is the analog audio direction configured?
The audio direction of each 5-pole Phoenix connector can be set individually as input or output using Lightware Device Controller (LDC) software. This allows each port to be tailored to the room's audio routing requirements without hardware changes.
Where can I purchase the MMX8x8-HT440?
Available at creationnetworks.net. Creation Networks provides conference room AV system design, integration support, and post-sale technical assistance for Lightware products.
