Product Overview

The Lightware MMX4x2-HT200 is a compact 4x2 matrix switcher designed for conference rooms, classrooms, and control rooms where space is limited but signal routing flexibility is required. It accepts three HDMI inputs and one HDBaseT-compatible TPS input, routing any source to two independent HDMI outputs simultaneously. Full 4K/UHD support, HDCP compliance, and onboard audio breakaway make it a practical single-enclosure solution for small-to-mid scale AV distribution.

Product Description

The MMX4x2-HT200 occupies a minimal footprint — 221 x 100.4 x 26 mm — while delivering the switching capability of a full matrix system. Three HDMI inputs cover the typical mix of laptops, media players, and codec outputs found at a conference table or instructor station. The single TPS input accepts long-cable runs via HDBaseT-compatible CAT cable up to 170 m in Long Reach mode, connecting remote sources without an additional receiver at the matrix.

Breakaway analog audio is handled through 5-pole Phoenix connectors for both input and output, allowing the unit to embed external audio into the HDMI stream or de-embed HDMI audio to a DSP or amplifier independently of the video routing. Volume and gain are adjustable per input and per output through software. The built-in Event Manager, configured via Lightware Device Controller software, enables rules-based automation — automatic source switching on HDMI hot-plug, display power commands over CEC, and third-party device control via RS-232 or IR. Control interfaces include USB, RS-232, IR (in and out), and Ethernet, covering both local and network-based control systems.

Key Features

  • 4x2 matrix routing — three HDMI inputs plus one TPS input to two independent HDMI outputs with breakaway switching
  • HDBaseT-compatible TPS input — accepts signals over CAT5e/CAT7 at distances up to 170 m (Long Reach mode, signals up to 148.5 MHz)
  • 4K/UHD support — handles resolutions up to 3840x2160@30Hz and 4096x2160@30Hz with HDCP compliance
  • Breakaway analog audio — independent 5-pole Phoenix audio input (embed) and output (de-embed), adjustable volume and gain per port
  • Advanced EDID Management — 120 factory EDID presets plus 12 user-programmable slots, locks source output to system-compatible formats
  • Built-in Event Manager — configurable automation rules via Lightware Device Controller, no external control processor required for simple tasks
  • CEC control — receives and transmits CEC commands on HDMI ports for display power and input switching
  • RS-232 pass-through — configurable baud rates 9600–115200, supports Cisco Room Kit and other codec serial control
  • IR extension — 3.5 mm IR in/out ports with HEX code support for third-party device control
  • Compact metal enclosure — 1 mm steel chassis, 10 W max power draw, powered by external 12V/2A DC supply

Typical Applications

  • Conference and meeting rooms with multiple presenter inputs and dual display outputs
  • Classrooms requiring instructor station switching with remote source connection over TPS
  • Control rooms with breakaway audio distribution to separate audio systems
  • Home cinema installations needing compact multi-source routing
  • Huddle spaces with automated display power through Event Manager and CEC

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the TPS input receive power from a compatible TPS transmitter?
The MMX4x2-HT200 TPS input is an HDBaseT-compatible receive port. Power over HDBaseT (PoH) delivery from the matrix to a remote transmitter depends on whether the installed transmitter supports remote powering. Check the transmitter spec sheet for PoH sourcing capability before relying on this feature.
Can I route audio independently from video on both outputs?
Yes. The breakaway analog audio input can be embedded into either HDMI output stream independently of the video route. The analog audio output de-embeds from whichever source is routed to that output, or can follow a separate audio path if configured in Lightware Device Controller.
What control systems are compatible?
The MMX4x2-HT200 supports control via Ethernet (LAN API), RS-232 (3-pole Phoenix), USB, and IR. It is compatible with Crestron, AMX, Extron, and other control processors that communicate via TCP/IP or RS-232 using Lightware's published API protocol.
Does the Event Manager require programming expertise?
No. The Event Manager is configured graphically through Lightware Device Controller software. Basic rules — such as "switch to input 2 when HDMI hot-plug detected" or "send CEC power-on when any source goes live" — can be set up without scripting knowledge.
Is this device compatible with Lightware modular matrix frames?
The MMX4x2-HT200 is a standalone unit and is not a board for insertion into an MX or 25G frame. It is compatible with Lightware TPS transmitters including the HDMI-TPS-TX200 series, UMX-TPS-TX100 series, and SW4-TPS-TX240 series on the TPS input port.
What is the maximum 4K cable distance over TPS?
At 4K UHD (297 MHz pixel clock), the maximum TPS cable distance is 70 m on CAT5e AWG24 or CAT7 AWG26, and 100 m on CAT7 AWG23 cable. Long Reach mode only extends distances for signals up to 148.5 MHz (1080p60 and below).
Where can I purchase this product with professional support?
The MMX4x2-HT200 is available at creationnetworks.net, where the team can assist with system design, compatibility verification, and post-sale technical support.
