Product Overview

The Lightware HDMI20-OPTJ-TX90 is the fiber transmitter unit in Lightware's HDMI 2.0 fiber extender pair, designed to transmit full-bandwidth 4K HDMI 2.0 signals over fiber optic cable to a paired HDMI20-OPTJ-RX90 receiver. The system supports uncompressed transport at 18Gbps over distances up to 300 meters on multi-mode fiber or up to 10 kilometers on single-mode fiber, with end-to-end HDCP 2.2 and HDR support. The HDMI20-OPTJ-TX90 is the standard choice for long-distance HDMI 2.0 signal transport in broadcast, large venue AV, and campus distribution systems.

Product Description

The HDMI20-OPTJ-TX90 accepts an HDMI 2.0 source signal and converts it to a fiber optic transport stream for transmission to the paired RX90 receiver over a single fiber run. The unit preserves the complete HDMI 2.0 specification — 4K60 4:4:4 at 18Gbps — without compression or downsampling, ensuring that HDR, deep color, and multi-channel audio content arrive at the destination display with full fidelity. HDCP 2.2 authentication is handled between the source and the transmitter, with HDCP re-authentication occurring at the receiver output to the display, maintaining a compliant end-to-end protection chain. The fiber link is immune to electromagnetic interference and eliminates ground loop issues that affect copper extenders in electrically noisy environments. RS-232 control signals are transported alongside the video over the same fiber connection. SFP fiber modules for the appropriate fiber type are included. The unit is powered by an included 12V DC adapter and fits into a standard 1U half-rack form factor for clean rack installation.

Key Features

  • Full HDMI 2.0 Transmission — Sends 4K60 4:4:4 at 18Gbps over fiber without compression or signal degradation
  • Long-Reach Fiber Transport — Up to 300m via multi-mode fiber (OM3/OM4) or up to 10km via single-mode fiber (OS2)
  • HDR Pass-Through — Preserves HDR10 and HLG metadata for HDR-capable displays at the destination
  • HDCP 2.2 Compliance — Full HDCP 2.2 authentication and re-authentication at both ends of the fiber link
  • EMI and Ground Loop Immunity — Fiber optic link inherently eliminates interference and electrical isolation issues
  • RS-232 Pass-Through — Transports serial control data to the remote receiver over the same fiber connection
  • Included SFP Modules — Fiber transceivers included for both multi-mode and single-mode configurations (specify at order)
  • Compact Half-Rack 1U Form — Rack-mountable for head-end installation alongside source equipment
  • Pairs with HDMI20-OPTJ-RX90 — Transmitter unit; the matching receiver (RX90) is sold separately

Typical Applications

  • Head-end equipment rooms transmitting 4K content to remote display positions over existing fiber plant
  • Broadcast facilities requiring uncompressed 4K signal transport between production areas over fiber backbone
  • University campus AV systems connecting buildings with single-mode fiber for long-distance HDMI distribution
  • Live events and concert venues routing 4K video from a control position to large-format displays over fiber
  • Sports arenas and stadiums transmitting game feeds from broadcast positions to concourse or suite displays
  • Corporate campuses distributing executive communications from a central AV room to remote conference spaces via fiber

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the TX90 transmitter include the fiber cable, or is that purchased separately?
The HDMI20-OPTJ-TX90 includes the SFP fiber transceiver modules for the transmitter end. The fiber optic cable itself must be purchased and installed separately. Contact Creation Networks for fiber cable recommendations based on your installation's distance and fiber type.
Can this transmitter be used with a third-party fiber receiver?
The HDMI20-OPTJ-TX90 is designed and validated to operate with the matched Lightware HDMI20-OPTJ-RX90 receiver. Interoperability with non-Lightware receivers is not guaranteed due to proprietary signal encoding used in the fiber transport layer.
What is the maximum resolution supported at 10km single-mode fiber distances?
The system maintains full 4K60 4:4:4 at 18Gbps at all supported fiber distances, including the maximum 10km single-mode range. Distance does not degrade the transported resolution or color depth.
Does the fiber link support CEC signals for display control?
CEC signal transport depends on the specific firmware and configuration. For verified CEC support, review the current Lightware product documentation or contact Creation Networks for a technical confirmation before specifying the system.
Is the fiber connection simplex or duplex?
The system uses a duplex fiber connection (two strands) — one for transmit and one for receive — to support bidirectional data transport for features such as ARC and RS-232 pass-through alongside the main video signal.
What SFP modules are included, and can I substitute different ones?
The included SFP modules are matched to the fiber type specified at order (multi-mode or single-mode). Third-party SFPs may function but are not validated by Lightware. Using non-Lightware SFPs may void the warranty on the fiber link performance.
Where can I purchase the matching receiver to complete the fiber extender system?
The matching receiver is the Lightware HDMI20-OPTJ-RX90, available from Creation Networks. Both units can be purchased together as a system, and our technical team can assist with fiber type selection and installation planning.
