Product Overview
The Lightware HDMI-TPS-TX97 (part number 91540024) is a professional HDBaseT transmitter that extends HDMI 2.0 signals, RS-232, IR, and power over a single Cat5e/6/7 cable to distances up to 100 meters. It features Power over Ethernet (PoE) capability, allowing the paired receiver to be powered from the transmitter location — eliminating the need for a local power supply at the display end. This is the transmitter half of the TPS-TX97/RX97 extender pair.
Product Description
Using HDBaseT technology, the HDMI-TPS-TX97 transmits 4K/30Hz (or 1080p/60Hz at longer distances) with HDCP 2.2 and multi-channel audio over standard CATx infrastructure. The PoE output eliminates the cable management complication of running a separate power line to ceiling-mounted or wall-recessed receiver units. RS-232 and IR pass-through on the CATx link enable bidirectional control between the AV rack and the display location without additional cabling.
The TX97 integrates with Lightware's TPS ecosystem and is configurable via Lightware Device Controller for EDID management and signal monitoring. Available from Creation Networks. Pair with the HDMI-TPS-RX97 receiver for a complete extender solution.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does PoE from the TX97 fully power the RX97 receiver?
- Yes. When paired with the HDMI-TPS-RX97, the TX97 supplies power over the CATx cable via PoE, eliminating the need for a separate power supply at the receiver end. This simplifies installation at ceiling-mounted or wall-recessed display locations.
- What resolution is supported at 100 meters?
- At 100 meters on Cat6 or Cat7 cable, 1080p/60Hz is reliably supported. For 4K content, the maximum extension distance is reduced — consult Lightware's cable distance specifications for 4K/30Hz and 4K/60Hz operation.
- Can RS-232 commands pass bidirectionally?
- Yes. The RS-232 pass-through operates bidirectionally over the CATx link, enabling a control system at the rack end to send commands to a display at the receiver location, and the display to return status responses.
- Is Cat5e cable sufficient, or is Cat6 required?
- Cat5e is supported for shorter runs. For maximum distance and 4K performance, Cat6 or Cat7 is recommended. Shielded cable (STP) is advisable in high-interference environments.
- Does the TX97 work with non-Lightware receivers?
- The TX97 uses the HDBaseT standard, so it has interoperability with other HDBaseT-compliant devices. However, full feature support — including PoE and control pass-through — is only guaranteed when paired with the Lightware HDMI-TPS-RX97.
- Is audio pass-through supported?
- Yes. Multi-channel audio including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X passes through the HDBaseT link to the receiver and is output via the HDMI connection at the display end.
