Product Overview

The Lightware HDMI-TPS-TX87 is a HDBaseT TPS transmitter that sends HDMI 2.0 signals over a single CATx cable to a compatible receiver such as the HDMI-TPS-RX87. Operating as the source-end unit, it accepts HDMI 2.0b input from a media player, PC, or AV source and converts the signal for transport over structured cabling at distances up to 100 meters. The built-in Power over Ethernet (PoE) supply port powers a connected PoE receiver, so only a single power connection at the transmitter is needed for the entire link.

Product Description

Lightware HDMI-TPS-TX87 HDBaseT TPS Transmitter

The TX87 accepts HDMI 2.0b signals at up to 18 Gbps bandwidth, supporting 4K/60Hz 4:4:4 and HDR10. It encapsulates HDMI video, multi-channel audio, Ethernet, RS-232, and IR signals into a single HDBaseT stream transmitted over Cat5e, Cat6, or Cat7 cable. The integrated PoE power supply (IEEE 802.3af PSE) removes the need for a local power adapter at the receive end. EDID management with internal EDID storage prevents source compatibility issues. Status LEDs on the front panel confirm link, PoE, and HDCP handshake state at a glance. The unit is designed for rack-adjacent or wall-mounted installation at the source equipment location.

Key Features

  • HDMI 2.0b input with HDCP 2.2 support
  • 4K/60Hz 4:4:4 8-bit and HDR10/HLG transport
  • HDBaseT output over Cat5e/6/7 up to 100m
  • Integrated PoE PSE — powers RX87 receiver over the CATx cable
  • Bidirectional RS-232 and IR control pass-through
  • 100Base-T Ethernet pass-through via HDBaseT
  • EDID management with internal EDID memory
  • Status LEDs for link, HDCP, and PoE state
  • Designed as matched pair with HDMI-TPS-RX87

Typical Applications

  • Corporate AV installations distributing 4K content from rack-mounted PCs or media servers to remote displays
  • University classrooms where the instructor workstation is at a podium and the display is ceiling- or wall-mounted
  • Retail digital signage with media players in back-of-house equipment racks feeding floor displays
  • Control room to operator workstation display extension in broadcast or operations center environments
  • Hotel room AV systems with set-top boxes or IPTV equipment in closets feeding in-room displays

Frequently Asked Questions

What receiver is the TX87 designed to work with?
The HDMI-TPS-TX87 is designed as a matched pair with the HDMI-TPS-RX87 receiver. Lightware tests and certifies performance as a pair. Third-party HDBaseT receivers may connect but full feature support is not guaranteed.
Does the TX87 include a power supply?
Yes. The TX87 ships with a 12V DC external power adapter. It also supplies PoE power (IEEE 802.3af) to the connected RX87 receiver over the CATx cable, so no additional PSU is needed at the display end.
What cable type gives the best performance?
Cat6 or Cat7 is recommended for 4K/60Hz at maximum distances. Cat5e is supported but may limit reliable transmission distance at full 4K bandwidth. Shielded cable (STP/FTP) is preferred in electrically noisy environments.
Can the TX87 handle HDR sources?
Yes. HDMI 2.0b supports HDR10 and HLG metadata pass-through. The TX87 transports HDR flags transparently, provided the source outputs and the receiver passes them to an HDR-capable display.
Is EDID management available?
Yes. The TX87 includes internal EDID storage and management. A fixed EDID can be loaded so the source device always sees a consistent display profile, preventing resolution or audio format negotiation failures during hot-plug events.
What control signals can travel alongside the HDMI signal?
The TX87 passes bidirectional RS-232 (up to 115200 baud), IR (38kHz carrier), and 100Base-T Ethernet signals over the same CATx cable using HDBaseT's multi-signal transport layer.
