Product Overview
The Lightware HDMI-TPS-RX97 (part number 91540023) is the receiver half of Lightware's HDBaseT TPS extender pair. It accepts the HDBaseT signal from a paired HDMI-TPS-TX97 transmitter over a single Cat5e/6/7 cable and outputs a clean HDMI 2.0 signal to the local display. With Power over Ethernet (PoE) input, it can operate without a local power supply when powered from the TX97, significantly simplifying installation at remote display locations.
Product Description
The RX97 receives the HDBaseT signal carrying HDMI video, multi-channel audio, RS-232, and IR control data, reconstructs the HDMI signal, and outputs it directly to the connected display. The unit supports HDCP 2.2 authentication at the receiver end, ensuring protected content is delivered correctly to compliant displays. RS-232 and IR outputs allow the display or other room devices to be controlled from the source end without additional cabling.
The compact chassis is suited for installation behind displays, in display mounts, or in wall-mounted enclosures. Configure via Lightware Device Controller over the network for EDID and signal status monitoring. Available from Creation Networks. Pair with the HDMI-TPS-TX97 for a complete extender solution.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the RX97 require its own power supply?
- No — when paired with the HDMI-TPS-TX97 transmitter, the RX97 is powered via PoE over the CATx cable. If used with a transmitter that does not supply PoE, a separate power supply is required.
- What happens if the CATx cable is longer than the specified distance?
- Signal quality degrades beyond the rated distance, which can manifest as image artifacts, intermittent dropouts, or complete loss of signal. Use Cat7 shielded cable for maximum reach and ensure cables are uncoiled and run without sharp bends.
- Can I control the display via RS-232 from the source end?
- Yes. The RS-232 pass-through is bidirectional. A control system connected to the TX97 end can send RS-232 commands to the display via the RX97's RS-232 output port, and receive status responses back.
- Is the RX97 compatible with HDBaseT transmitters from other brands?
- As an HDBaseT-compliant device, the RX97 has basic interoperability with other HDBaseT transmitters. Full feature support including PoE pass-through and control channels is guaranteed only with the paired HDMI-TPS-TX97.
- Does it output audio as well as video?
- Yes. All audio data embedded in the HDMI signal — including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X — is output via the HDMI connector on the RX97 to the connected display's audio system.
- What cable category is recommended for 4K performance?
- Cat6 or Cat7 is recommended for 4K operation. Cat5e may support 4K at shorter distances but is not recommended for maximum distance or in electrically noisy environments.
