Product Overview
The Lightware HDMI-TPS-RX96 (part number 91540066) is the receiver half of Lightware's TPS-TX96/RX96 HDBaseT extender pair. It receives the HDBaseT signal transmitted from the HDMI-TPS-TX96 over a single Cat5e/6/7 cable and reconstructs it into a clean HDMI output for the local display. The RX96 requires a local power supply (not PoE-powered), making it the appropriate choice for installations where power is accessible at the display location and cost efficiency is the priority over PoE convenience.
Product Description
The RX96 accepts the HDBaseT signal containing HDMI video, multi-channel audio, RS-232, and IR data, decodes it, and outputs the HDMI signal to the connected display. HDCP 2.2 is authenticated at the receiver end to ensure compliant playback of protected content. RS-232 and IR outputs enable control of the display or local room devices from the source location without additional cabling.
The compact form factor suits installation directly behind displays, in display mounting brackets, or in wall-recessed enclosures. Configuration via Lightware Device Controller allows remote EDID and signal status management. Available from Creation Networks.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the RX96 and RX97?
- The HDMI-TPS-RX97 is powered via PoE from the paired TX97 transmitter — no local power supply is needed. The RX96 requires a local power supply at the receiver location. The RX96 is the cost-effective choice when power is available at the display end.
- Can the RX96 be wall-mounted behind a display?
- Yes. The compact chassis is designed for installation in display mounting brackets, behind-display enclosures, or wall-recessed AV boxes. Mounting hardware options vary by installation bracket type.
- Does the RX96 support 4K?
- The HDBaseT link supports 4K content at reduced cable distances. At full 100-meter runs on Cat6, 1080p/60Hz is the reliable operating point. Shorter runs on Cat7 can support 4K/30Hz — refer to Lightware's cable distance specifications for your specific resolution requirements.
- What power supply is required for the RX96?
- The RX96 uses a low-voltage DC power supply. Lightware specifies the exact voltage and current requirements — consult the product datasheet or contact Creation Networks for accessory PSU recommendations.
- Is the RX96 compatible with the TX97 transmitter?
- At the HDBaseT protocol level, cross-compatibility is possible for basic signal extension. However, PoE and advanced feature support requires matched pairs. The RX96 will not be powered over CATx from the TX97 — it will still require its own local power supply.
- Does audio pass through correctly?
- Yes. Multi-channel audio embedded in the HDMI signal — including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X — passes through the HDBaseT link and is output via the HDMI connector on the RX96.
