Product Overview
The Lightware HDMI-TPS-RX86 is a HDBaseT TPS receiver that extends HDMI signals over a single CATx cable from a compatible transmitter. It is the receive-side unit in the HDMI-TPS-TX86/RX86 pair, converting an HDBaseT input back to HDMI output for connection to a display. Unlike the PoE-equipped RX87, the RX86 requires a local power supply, making it the cost-effective choice for installations where a local power outlet is available at the display location.
Available at Creation Networks.
Product Description

The HDMI-TPS-RX86 receives an HDBaseT signal from the paired TX86 transmitter and outputs HDMI to a local monitor or projector. It supports HDMI 2.0 with HDCP 2.2, enabling 4K/60Hz transport. RS-232 and IR control signals travel alongside the video on the same CATx run. The unit does not include PoE, so a separate 12V DC power supply is required at the receiver end. This makes the RX86/TX86 pair a practical option when both ends of the installation have accessible power and a lower overall system cost is the priority. EDID management is supported, and status LEDs indicate link and HDCP state.

Frequently Asked Questions
- What is the difference between the RX86 and RX87?
- The primary difference is PoE support. The RX87 can be powered over the HDBaseT cable from the TX87 transmitter, eliminating the need for a local power outlet at the receiver. The RX86 requires a separate 12V DC power supply at the receiver end. Both units otherwise share the same video and control feature set at a slightly lower price point for the RX86.
- What transmitter is the RX86 compatible with?
- The HDMI-TPS-RX86 is designed and tested as a matched pair with the HDMI-TPS-TX86 transmitter. Cross-compatibility with the TX87 or third-party HDBaseT transmitters is not guaranteed by Lightware.
- Does the RX86 include a power supply?
- Yes. A 12V DC external power adapter is included in the box. The unit must be powered locally — it does not accept PoE from the HDBaseT link.
- What cable type is recommended?
- Cat6 or Cat7 is recommended for reliable 4K/60Hz performance at distances over 50 meters. Cat5e may be used at shorter runs. Avoid unshielded cable runs in areas with high electromagnetic interference.
- Can I use the RX86 without RS-232 or IR control?
- Yes. The control pass-through features are optional. The unit will transport HDMI video and audio regardless of whether RS-232 or IR devices are connected. Unused control ports do not affect video operation.
