Product Overview

The Lightware HDMI-OPTN-RX100A-SR is an SDVoE-based fiber optical HDMI 2.0 scaling receiver for point-to-multipoint AV-over-IP distribution. It accepts HDMI 2.0 video, embedded audio, Ethernet, and RS-232 from a compatible fiber optical transmitter over single-mode or multimode fiber — using an SFP+ module (not included) — and outputs a scaled HDMI 2.0 signal to the local display. The integrated scaler enables format conversion and supports uninterrupted output during source switching, making it suited for digital signage, multi-display installations, and large-scale AV networks requiring 4K distribution.

Product Description

The HDMI-OPTN-RX100A-SR provides the receiver endpoint for Lightware's OPTN fiber-based SDVoE distribution system. The SFP+ cage accepts user-supplied single-mode or multimode modules, giving integrators flexibility to match the fiber type in the installed plant — single-mode modules extend the link up to 10 km, while multimode modules cover shorter campus or building-level distances.

HDCP 2.3 compliance on the HDMI output ensures the full content protection chain is maintained from a protected source through the network to the display. The integrated scaler converts incoming signal resolution to the EDID preferred resolution of the connected display or to a custom output resolution, allowing displays with differing native resolutions to be used in the same distributed system without per-display source management. HDR and Low Latency Dolby Vision are supported when no scaling is applied. The analog audio output (5-pole Phoenix) de-embeds stereo audio from the HDMI stream for connection to a DSP, amplifier, or local speaker system. RS-232 data passed through the fiber link provides control integration with the connected display or room device. Powering options include a local power adaptor or PoE from the TPX input port, reducing cabling requirements at each endpoint.

Key Features

  • SDVoE fiber distribution — point-to-multipoint HDMI 2.0 over fiber using SDVoE technology for scalable AV-over-IP
  • SFP+ cage — accepts user-supplied SM or MM SFP+ modules; up to 10 km on single-mode fiber
  • 4K HDMI 2.0 output — up to 4K UHD @60Hz RGB 4:4:4, 18 Gbps, HDCP 2.3 compliant
  • Integrated scaler — scales to EDID preferred resolution or custom resolution for mixed-display environments
  • Uninterrupted output during switching — scaler holds output active during source transitions, preventing display re-sync delays
  • HDR and Low Latency Dolby Vision — supported in pass-through mode (no scaling)
  • Analog audio de-embedding — 5-pole Phoenix output, 2-ch PCM at 48 kHz, adjustable volume and gain
  • RS-232 pass-through — 3-pole Phoenix, 4800–115200 Baud for display control
  • PoE powered — can receive power via the TPX RJ45 input (IEEE 802.3af), eliminating local power wiring at each display endpoint
  • Dual Ethernet ports — 1000 Base-T for network management and control integration

Typical Applications

  • Multi-display digital signage networks with mixed display resolutions requiring scaling at each endpoint
  • University and corporate campus AV distribution over existing single-mode fiber infrastructure
  • Large-venue display walls and public information systems with 4K content distributed over 10G networks
  • Broadcast and production monitor distribution over fiber with per-display format conversion
  • Command centers requiring uninterrupted display output during source transitions

Frequently Asked Questions

What SFP+ module is required and is it included?
The SFP+ module is not included. You must supply a compatible SFP+ module matching your fiber plant — single-mode for runs up to 10 km, or multimode for shorter distances. Verify SFP+ module compatibility with Lightware specifications before purchasing. Creation Networks can advise on compatible modules.
Can this receiver be used in a point-to-point system as well as point-to-multipoint?
Yes. The HDMI-OPTN-RX100A-SR works in both point-to-point (single TX to single RX) and point-to-multipoint (one TX to multiple RX) configurations, depending on the network topology and transmitter used.
Does scaling affect latency or HDR?
When scaling is active, the output is RGB 8-bit/component — HDR metadata is not preserved through the scaler. For HDR and Low Latency Dolby Vision support, scaling must be disabled and the source and display must be configured to matching resolutions.
Can this unit be powered over the network without a local power supply?
Yes. The unit supports PoE (IEEE 802.3af) via the TPX input RJ45, allowing it to be powered by a compatible PoE switch or injector. This eliminates the need to run separate AC power to each display endpoint in distributed systems.
What transmitter is required for the fiber link?
The HDMI-OPTN-RX100A-SR is designed to pair with Lightware OPTN series fiber transmitters, including the HDMI-OPTN-TX200AU2K. Confirm transmitter and SFP+ module pairing with Creation Networks before ordering.
What happens to the display output when the source changes?
The integrated scaler maintains a continuous output signal during source transitions. Displays do not experience the re-sync delay that occurs when a new HDMI handshake is initiated on standard switchers, preventing blank-screen periods during live switching events.
Where can I order this with engineering support?
The HDMI-OPTN-RX100A-SR is available at creationnetworks.net. Contact the team for SFP+ module selection, fiber link budget, and SDVoE network design assistance.
