Product Overview

The Lightware Finisar 10G SFP+ SM BiDi "A" is an industrial-grade 10Gbps SFP+ fiber transceiver for singlemode fiber, using Bidirectional (BiDi) technology to transmit and receive over a single strand of fiber. It operates as the "A" module in a paired BiDi link — it must be used with a Finisar 10G SFP+ SM BiDi "B" module at the opposite end of the fiber run. Designed for Lightware VINX series AV-over-IP infrastructure and compatible with any MSA-compliant SFP+ host. Available from Creation Networks.

Product Description

Lightware Finisar 10G SFP+ SM BiDi A fiber transceiver module

BiDi (Bidirectional) transceivers use wavelength-division multiplexing to carry both transmit and receive traffic on a single fiber strand. The "A" module transmits on 1270nm and receives on 1330nm — the inverse of the "B" module — so that each module's TX wavelength is the other's RX wavelength. This paired operation requires only one fiber strand between the two ends of a 10G link, reducing infrastructure costs significantly in fiber-constrained environments. The industrial-grade temperature rating extends the operational envelope beyond standard commercial SFP+ modules, suitable for AV equipment rooms and similar environments. Plug-and-play installation in any SFP+ cage with no configuration required.

Key Features

  • 10Gbps SFP+ form factor — fits any standard SFP+ cage
  • BiDi technology: single fiber strand for both TX and RX
  • TX wavelength: 1270nm | RX wavelength: 1330nm (pairs with BiDi "B" module)
  • Singlemode fiber (SMF) operation
  • Industrial grade — extended operating temperature range
  • No drivers or configuration required
  • MSA-compliant form factor
  • Validated for Lightware VINX AV-over-IP 10G infrastructure

Typical Applications

  • 10G fiber uplinks between Lightware VINX switches and core network infrastructure
  • Single-fiber inter-building and campus AV distribution links
  • Singlemode fiber backbone connections for AV-over-IP systems
  • Fiber-constrained environments where a single fiber strand per link is required
  • Any 10GbE installation pairing with the Finisar BiDi "B" module at the remote end

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between the BiDi "A" and BiDi "B" modules?
The "A" module transmits on 1270nm and receives on 1330nm. The "B" module (11800129) transmits on 1330nm and receives on 1270nm. They must be used as a pair — "A" at one end, "B" at the other. Two "A" modules or two "B" modules on the same fiber will not work.
How many fiber strands does a BiDi link require?
One. A single singlemode fiber strand carries both the TX and RX traffic using different wavelengths. Standard duplex LC patch cords can be used — only one fiber of the duplex pair is used.
Is this module compatible with multimode fiber?
No. This is a singlemode (SM) transceiver. It requires OS1 or OS2 singlemode fiber. Using it with multimode fiber will result in high optical loss and an unreliable or non-functional link.
Will this module work in a Cisco switch?
The module is MSA-compliant and physically compatible with Cisco SFP+ ports. However, Cisco IOS may display a warning or disable the port if it does not recognize the module's coding. Contact Creation Networks for compatibility guidance specific to your switch model.
What is the typical maximum reach?
Up to 10km on OS1/OS2 singlemode fiber at 10Gbps, subject to actual fiber loss. Verify against the transceiver's optical power budget and your installed fiber plant loss measurements before deploying at maximum distance.
