Product Overview
The Lightware DP-OPT-TX100 is the transmitter unit in a DisplayPort 1.1a fiber extension pair, sending uncompressed DP video and embedded audio over a single multimode fiber strand to the DP-OPT-RX100 receiver. It supports Dual-mode DisplayPort with HDCP 1.1 encryption and achieves zero frame latency by performing optical conversion without buffering. Using Single Fiber Technology, both the high-bandwidth video stream and the low-speed bidirectional signaling required for DP Link Training and HDCP authentication travel over the same fiber core, eliminating the need for a separate control cable. Extension distances reach up to 1100 meters on OM4 multimode fiber at 2560x1600@60Hz.
Product Description
The DP-OPT-TX100 connects to the source via a standard DisplayPort gold-plated connector and outputs onto SC multimode fiber. It accepts DP 1.1a signals at up to 10.8 Gbps total bandwidth (4 lanes at 2.7 Gbps each). Resolutions supported include 2560x1600@60Hz, 4096x2160@30Hz, 3840x2160@30Hz, and 1920x1080@120Hz. Color depths of 24, 30, 36, and 48 bits are all supported.

The unit operates on 5V DC (1A) from an included universal adaptor. The enclosure is 1mm metal measuring 100.4 x 67.6 x 26mm and weighs 200 grams. LED indicators on the unit provide real-time status for power, fiber link, source detection, monitor detection, link lane count, link speed, and whether the unit is operating in DisplayPort or DVI/HDMI adaptor mode. Galvanic isolation through the fiber medium eliminates ground loops between the source and display locations.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the DP-OPT-TX100 require a specific receiver?
- Yes. It is designed to work exclusively with the Lightware DP-OPT-RX100 receiver. The Single Fiber Technology and proprietary DP Link Training implementation are specific to this pair and are not interoperable with generic optical extenders or other manufacturers' DP fiber products.
- What is the maximum bandwidth, and does it support 4K60?
- The DP-OPT-TX100 supports DisplayPort 1.1a at 10.8 Gbps total bandwidth (4 lanes x 2.7 Gbps). At 60Hz, the maximum supported resolution is 2560x1600. 4K (3840x2160 and 4096x2160) is supported at up to 30Hz only. For 4K60 over fiber, the Lightware HDMI-OPTX-TX200AU2K/RX100AU2K SDVoE pair is the appropriate solution.
- What fiber cable is required?
- The preferred fiber type is 50/125 multimode SC-terminated cable (OM3 or OM4). OM4 gives the maximum 1100m reach. OM1 (62.5/125) is supported but limited to 150m. Both fiber cores at each SC connector must be functioning; the Single Fiber Technology uses wavelength-division multiplexing on a single strand.
- Can the transmitter power the receiver?
- No. Power over fiber is not supported. Both the DP-OPT-TX100 and DP-OPT-RX100 require their own independent 5V DC power supplies from the included adaptors.
- Is the unit compatible with Thunderbolt ports on Mac computers?
- Thunderbolt 1 and 2 ports are electrically DisplayPort compatible and will work with the DP-OPT-TX100 using a Thunderbolt-to-DisplayPort adaptor. Thunderbolt 3/4 (USB-C) requires a USB-C to DisplayPort adaptor and is subject to the display link capabilities of the specific Mac model.
