Product Overview
The Lightware DP-OPT-RX150 is a DisplayPort 1.1a fiber optic extender receiver that extends high-resolution video and USB HID signals over a single multimode fiber cable at distances up to 1100 m. It receives the signal from a DP-OPT-TX150 transmitter and outputs Dual-mode DisplayPort, supporting resolutions up to 2560x1600@60Hz and 4K at 30Hz. Integrated USB HID emulation provides transparent keyboard and mouse extension without drivers, making it suitable for long-distance KVM installations in control rooms, broadcast facilities, and data centers.
Product Description
The DP-OPT-RX150 operates as the display-end unit in the Lightware DP-OPT extender pair. Using Single Fiber Technology, all signals — including high-speed DisplayPort lanes, HDCP handshaking, DisplayPort Link Training, and USB HID transfer — travel over a single fiber core, eliminating the need for a second fiber or copper control cable. This simplifies infrastructure in installations where conduit space or fiber count is constrained.

The receiver provides two USB-A ports for HID device connection (keyboard, mouse) at the display end. HID devices are emulated intelligently — the computer sees them as directly connected, requiring no drivers. Dual-mode DisplayPort allows connection to DVI or HDMI displays through a standard adaptor cable, and the unit is compatible with Thunderbolt-equipped Mac computers. The DP-OPT-RX150 connects to 50/125 SC multimode fiber and achieves up to 1100 m on OM3 or OM4 fiber.

Frequently Asked Questions
- Does the DP-OPT-RX150 require the DP-OPT-TX150 transmitter?
- Yes. The RX150 is designed to work with the DP-OPT-TX150 as a matched pair. The proprietary Single Fiber Technology requires both units from the same product family.
- Can I connect a standard HDMI monitor to the RX150 output?
- Yes, using a Dual-mode DisplayPort to HDMI adaptor cable. Dual-mode DisplayPort is compatible with HDMI and DVI displays via passive or active adaptor cables.
- What fiber connector type is required?
- The DP-OPT-RX150 uses SC receptacles. Ensure your fiber patch cables use SC connectors, or use SC adaptor panels as required.
- How many USB HID devices can be connected at the receiver?
- Two USB-A ports on the RX150 accept HID devices such as keyboard and mouse. For additional USB devices, the transmitter (TX150) provides 2 additional USB-A ports with a built-in USB hub.
- Is the extension distance affected by resolution?
- Yes. Higher resolutions require more bandwidth per lane, which may reduce maximum achievable distance. The 1100 m figure applies to 2560x1600@60Hz 24bpp on OM4 fiber. Lower resolutions extend further.
- Is the DP-OPT-RX150 compatible with Thunderbolt 1 or 2 sources?
- Yes. Lightware DisplayPort extenders support Thunderbolt sources. The extender pair must be placed at the end of the Thunderbolt chain. Apple Thunderbolt Display is not supported.
