Product Overview

The Lightware DP-OPT-RX100 is the receiver unit in a DisplayPort 1.1a fiber extension system, designed to accept an optical signal from the DP-OPT-TX100 transmitter and deliver it to a display or downstream AV system. It extends Dual-mode DisplayPort signals — including HDCP-encrypted content — over a single multimode fiber strand at distances up to 1100 meters using OM4 fiber. The Single Fiber Technology manages the bidirectional communication required for DP Link Training and HDCP handshaking on the same fiber core used for video, eliminating the need for a second fiber or copper control cable. Zero frame latency and galvanic isolation make it suitable for broadcast monitoring, long-distance post-production signal routing, and installations where ground loop elimination is required.

Product Description

The DP-OPT-RX100 terminates on a standard DisplayPort gold-plated connector and an SC-type multimode fiber receptacle. Compatible fiber types are 50/125 OM3 and OM4 (preferred) and 62.5/125 OM1. At 2560x1600@60Hz with 24bpp color depth, OM4 fiber supports up to 1100 meters. Extension distances on OM1 fiber are 150 meters and OM2 supports 350 meters at the same resolution.

Lightware DP-OPT-RX100 DisplayPort Fiber Receiver

Dual-mode DisplayPort capability means the unit also supports connection to DVI or HDMI displays via standard adaptor cables, with the graphic card automatically reconfiguring its output accordingly. Color depth support covers 24, 30, 36, and 48-bit deep color. The receiver operates on 5V DC (1A) from an external universal adaptor (100–240V AC). The compact 1mm metal enclosure measures 100.4 x 67.6 x 26mm and weighs 205 grams. LED status indicators cover power, fiber link, source detect, monitor detect, link lane number, link speed, and DP/DVI-HDMI mode.

Key Features

  • DisplayPort 1.1a fiber receiver — receives DP signal from DP-OPT-TX100 over SC multimode fiber
  • Up to 1100m extension — over OM4 50/125 fiber at 2560x1600@60Hz; 800m on OM3; 350m on OM2; 150m on OM1
  • Single fiber technology — Link Training and HDCP handshaking over the same fiber core as video; no second cable needed
  • Zero frame delay — no buffering or compression in the optical conversion path
  • Galvanic isolation — fiber medium eliminates ground loops and hum between source and display
  • Dual-mode DisplayPort — compatible with DVI and HDMI displays via standard adaptor cables
  • HDCP 1.1 compliant — full content protection pass-through from source to display
  • Deep color support — 24, 30, 36, and 48-bit color depth
  • 4K support at 30Hz — 4096x2160 and 3840x2160 at up to 30Hz; 2560x1600@60Hz at full bandwidth
  • Apple Cinema Display compatible — supports DisplayPort Link Training required by Apple LED Cinema Display
  • Comprehensive LED indicators — power, fiber link, source detect, monitor detect, lane count, link speed, DP/DVI-HDMI mode

Typical Applications

  • Long-distance DisplayPort signal routing in broadcast facilities where sources and monitors are in separate rooms
  • Apple Cinema Display extension in architectural or design studios with fiber infrastructure between floors or buildings
  • Ground loop isolation in recording studios and audio-visual production environments
  • Point-to-point DisplayPort distribution in government or secure facilities where copper is unsuitable for EMI reasons
  • Conference center AV systems with existing fiber between breakout rooms and a central equipment room

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the DP-OPT-RX100 work with any DisplayPort transmitter?
No. It is designed to work exclusively with the Lightware DP-OPT-TX100 transmitter. The Single Fiber Technology used for DP Link Training and HDCP handshaking is proprietary to this extender pair and is not compatible with generic optical fiber extenders.
What fiber type gives the longest extension distance?
OM4 50/125 multimode fiber provides the maximum extension distance of 1100 meters at 2560x1600@60Hz. OM3 supports up to 800m, OM2 up to 350m, and OM1 (62.5/125) up to 150m. The fiber connectors are SC type at both ends.
Can I connect a DVI or HDMI display to the DP-OPT-RX100?
Yes, using a standard Dual-mode DisplayPort to DVI or HDMI adaptor cable. The graphic card at the source must support Dual-mode DP (also called DP++), which is the case for most modern workstation and PC graphics outputs. The extender operates in DVI/HDMI mode and the status LED reflects this.
Is content protection supported for 4K content?
Yes. HDCP 1.1 is supported through the full extension path. Note that this is HDCP version 1.1 (not 1.4 or 2.2). Sources and displays requiring HDCP 1.4 or 2.2 for 4K playback would need a separate HDMI 2.0 extension solution such as the Lightware HDMI-OPTX series.
What does the laser Class 3R designation mean?
Class 3R indicates that the optical output is low-risk under normal use conditions but should not be viewed directly. Standard fiber installation precautions apply: do not look into the fiber end or SC connector while powered. The wavelengths used are near-infrared (778–980nm) and invisible to the naked eye.
Is the power adaptor included, and what are the power requirements?
Yes, an external universal power adaptor is included. The receiver requires 5V DC at 1A. The adaptor accepts 100–240V AC at 50–60Hz and uses a DC connector with PIN 2.35mm.
Where can I purchase and get support for this product?
The DP-OPT-RX100 is available at creationnetworks.net. Our technical team can assist with fiber plant compatibility, extension distance planning, and system integration.
