Product Overview

The Lightware CAB-USBC-T500B is a 5-meter Full-Featured USB-C cable built on Microcoax technology, supporting USB 3.1 Gen1 data, 4K/60Hz video via DisplayPort Alternate Mode, and Power Delivery over a single connector. It extends BYOD USB-C AV systems to 5 meters — beyond the reach of passive copper USB-C cables — while maintaining the full signal capability required for Lightware UCX deployments. Available from Creation Networks at creationnetworks.net.

Product Description

Lightware CAB-USBC-T500B 5m USB-C Full-Featured CableLightware CAB-USBC-T500B cable connector detail

Standard passive USB-C cables are limited to approximately 1–2 meters for reliable SuperSpeed USB 3.1 and DP Alt Mode signal quality. The CAB-USBC-T500B uses Microcoax internal construction — fine coaxial conductors replacing standard twisted pairs — to maintain signal integrity at 5 meters without active electronics. This makes it the appropriate choice for conference table installations where the cable must reach from a centrally-routed trunk to a laptop position, or from a desk pop-up unit to an under-table UCX receiver.

The cable is bidirectional for USB data and power, but DP Alt Mode is directional (source device must initiate the alternate mode negotiation). It carries the full pin set required for USB 3.1 Gen1, DisplayPort 1.2 Alt Mode (up to 4K60), and Power Delivery — the complete feature set for a BYOD laptop connection in a Lightware UCX system.

Key Features

  • 5-meter length using Microcoax internal construction
  • Full-Featured USB-C: USB 3.1 Gen1 + DP Alt Mode + Power Delivery
  • 4K/60Hz video output via DisplayPort Alternate Mode
  • Passive cable — no active electronics or external power
  • USB-C Type A connector both ends (standard reversible)
  • Designed for Lightware UCX BYOD AV infrastructure
  • Suitable for under-table or in-conduit routing

Typical Applications

  • Conference tables: 5m run from desk pop-up to under-table UCX receiver
  • BYOD presentation systems connecting laptop to room AV at 4K60
  • Classrooms with centralized AV distribution and extended desk cable runs
  • Co-working spaces with managed USB-C connectivity at longer desk runs
  • Training rooms where cable must reach from wall outlet to presentation position

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does a 5m USB-C cable need Microcoax construction?
Standard passive USB-C cables use twisted-pair conductors optimized for short distances. At 5 meters, signal attenuation causes SuperSpeed USB and DisplayPort Alt Mode to fail. Microcoax uses fine coaxial conductors that maintain controlled impedance and lower loss at extended lengths without active electronics.
Does this cable support USB4 or Thunderbolt?
No. The CAB-USBC-T500B is rated for USB 3.1 Gen1 (5 Gbps) and DisplayPort Alt Mode. It does not support USB4 or Thunderbolt 3/4 protocols.
Can any USB-C laptop use this cable with a Lightware UCX receiver?
Any laptop with a USB-C port supporting DP Alt Mode will work. Laptops with USB-C ports that support USB data only (no DP Alt Mode) will pass data and power but not video.
Is the cable directional?
For USB data and power, the cable is bidirectional. For DisplayPort Alt Mode, the source device initiates Alt Mode negotiation — the cable itself is not directional, but the system configuration determines which end connects to the source.
What is the difference between this and the 4m CAB-USBC-T400B?
The CAB-USBC-T500B adds one meter of reach. Both use the same Microcoax technology and Full-Featured USB-C specification. Choose the 5m variant when the cable run from the desk position to the UCX receiver exceeds 4 meters.
Can I use this cable outside the Lightware UCX ecosystem?
Yes. The cable carries standard USB-C signals and is compatible with any host and device supporting USB 3.1 Gen1 and DP Alt Mode. Lightware UCX is the primary designed application but not the only valid use case.
