Product Overview

The Lab Gruppen IPX 4800 is a 4,800-watt, 2-channel DSP-controlled power amplifier in a 1RU chassis, designed for commercial AV integrators who need integrated signal processing alongside high-output amplification. Delivering 2 x 2,400 W at 4 ohms, the IPX 4800 combines a state-of-the-art DSP engine — with up to 40 real-time parametric EQ bands, FIR filtering, adjustable delay, and a software-controlled Speaker Protect Limiter — with Class-D output for permanent installations, portable corporate AV systems, and live PA applications.

Product Description

The IPX 4800 is the highest-power model in Lab Gruppen's IPX Series, a family of compact DSP amplifiers targeting the growing market for integrated processing-and-amplification solutions in a single rack unit. For system designers, it eliminates the need for a separate DSP processor in many scenarios: the onboard engine includes up to 40 real-time multi-slope parametric EQ filters, FIR-X mode for speaker preset creation with FIR and IIR filters, adjustable input and output delay, and both high-pass and low-pass filters adjustable to any frequency. All DSP parameters are accessible from the front-panel display using a rotary encoder and navigation buttons, or from a connected PC or Mac running the IPX Controller software.

The amplifier accepts both AES3 digital inputs and balanced analog XLR inputs, with automatic failover from AES3 to analog — a practical redundancy feature for mission-critical PA/VA systems in government buildings, houses of worship, or large corporate venues. A 4-channel input mixer allows source selection and blending across all four inputs. Up to 50 user-defined presets can be stored onboard, enabling fast recall of venue-specific EQ and gain configurations during system setup or live event changeovers.

Network control via Ethernet enables remote monitoring and configuration of all connected IPX amplifiers simultaneously, with automatic device discovery. The IPX Controller GUI is designed for touchscreen operation, making it practical for facilities managers or AV technicians who need to adjust system parameters from a tablet in the field. Power outputs are available on binding posts and industry-standard NL-type twist-locking speaker connectors.

Key Features

  • 4,800 W Total Output, 2 Channels — 2 x 2,400 W at 2Ω or 4Ω; 2 x 1,200 W at 8Ω.
  • Advanced Onboard DSP — Up to 40 real-time multi-slope parametric EQ bands, FIR-X mode, high/low-pass filters adjustable to any frequency, adjustable input and output delay.
  • Speaker Protect Limiter (maxSPL) — Software-configured limiter provides per-channel loudspeaker protection without external hardware.
  • AES3 and Analog Inputs with Failover — Automatic switchover from AES3 digital to analog input on signal loss; suitable for redundant PA/VA systems.
  • 4-Channel Input Mixer — Onboard mixing across four inputs for source switching and blending in multi-source installations.
  • 50 Onboard User Presets — Store and recall complete DSP configurations; useful for multi-venue or multi-event deployments.
  • Ethernet Network Control — Automatic amplifier discovery; IPX Controller software for PC, Mac, and iPad with touchscreen-optimized GUI.
  • Front-Panel Display and Controls — Backlit display with rotary encoder, Menu/Back/Mute buttons, and VU meters for on-site operation without a laptop.
  • Class-D Output Stage — IDEEA technology for high efficiency and low mains current draw.
  • Dual Output Connector Types — Binding posts and twist-locking speaker connectors on all output channels.
  • 1RU Form Factor — Universal 100–240 VAC power supply; compact footprint for high-power-density rack builds.

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Does the IPX 4800 replace a separate DSP processor?

A: For many applications, yes. The onboard DSP includes up to 40 parametric EQ bands, FIR-X speaker preset mode, adjustable input/output delay, high/low-pass filters, and a software-controlled Speaker Protect Limiter. For complex multi-amp systems requiring centralized processing, a dedicated DSP processor may still be appropriate upstream.

Q: What is the AES3 failover feature?

A: The IPX 4800 can be configured for automatic failover from AES3 digital input to analog input if the digital signal is lost. This provides a hardware-level redundancy path for mission-critical PA or voice alarm systems where audio continuity is required.

Q: How is the IPX 4800 configured and monitored remotely?

A: Network configuration is via Ethernet using the IPX Controller software (available for Windows, Mac, and iPad). The software auto-discovers all connected IPX amplifiers on the network, allowing centralized configuration of DSP parameters, preset recall, and real-time monitoring from a single interface.

Q: Can presets be stored and recalled for different events or venues?

A: Yes. Up to 50 user-defined presets can be stored onboard, each capturing a complete DSP configuration including EQ, delay, gain, and limiter settings. These can also be recalled from the front-panel display without a connected computer.

Q: What speaker connector types are available on the outputs?

A: Both binding posts and industry-standard twist-locking (NL-type) speaker connectors are provided on each output channel, accommodating different installation wiring practices and touring speaker cable terminations.

Q: Is the IPX 4800 suitable for live events and portable corporate AV as well as permanent installs?

A: Yes. Lab Gruppen designed the IPX Series for both permanent installations and portable deployments. The 1RU form factor, universal power supply, and onboard presets make it practical for systems that move between venues or rooms.

Q: What is FIR-X mode?

A: FIR-X mode allows system designers to create speaker presets using both FIR (Finite Impulse Response) and IIR (Infinite Impulse Response) filters — enabling linear-phase crossover and EQ configurations for single and multi-way loudspeaker systems.
