Product Overview

The Lab Gruppen D 40:4L delivers 4,000W of total burst power across four channels with onboard Lake digital signal processing and Dante digital audio networking in a compact 1U rack-mount chassis. Part of the D Series Lake installation platform, the D 40:4L is well suited for AV system designers specifying boardrooms, conference rooms, training facilities, and commercial meeting spaces where full Lake loudspeaker management, Dante audio transport, and intelligent power allocation are required in a space-efficient form factor. The Lab Gruppen D 40:4L commercial installation amplifier with Lake DSP and Dante bridges the gap between entry-level networked amplification and the higher-power 2U D Series Lake models.

Product Description

The D 40:4L employs Lab Gruppen's IDEEA Class D output stage with native direct drive capability at 70V and 100V constant voltage, eliminating the external transformers typically required for Hi-Z distributed speaker systems and reducing both installation cost and complexity. Standard Lo-Z loads from 2 to 16 ohms are also fully supported. Rational Power Management (RPM) governs how the 4,000W total burst pool is distributed across the four channels: any single channel can scale up significantly beyond its default allocation, making it straightforward to design systems that mix demanding zones with lighter loads from a single amplifier without over-specifying equipment.

All four output channels include a dedicated Lake processing module with Classic, linear-phase, and FIR crossover filters, fully parametric EQ, programmable delay, and LimiterMax peak and RMS limiters. Audio inputs are independently selectable per channel from four balanced analog inputs with Iso-Float ground isolation, four AES/EBU digital inputs at up to 192 kHz and 24-bit resolution, or eight channels of dual-redundant Dante audio with AES67 compliance, with programmable per-channel failover to analog. Two RJ45 Ethernet ports serve Lake Controller, Dante Controller, and third-party control platforms including Q-Sys and MediaMatrix via UDP. CAFE software provides Equipment Specification Predictor tools for system design. Energy management features include Auto Power Down, Adaptive Rail Control, Breaker Emulation Limiter (BEL) at 15A, Under-Voltage Limiting (UVL), and Power Factor Correction greater than 0.98. The 1U chassis weighs 8.3 kg and includes per-channel touch-button mutes, tri-color LED indicators, a removable dust filter, and terminal block output connectors accepting up to 8mm² cable.

Key Features

  • 4,000W Total Burst Power with RPM — Full 4,000W pool redistributed freely across channels; any channel can access single-channel maximum output via RPM.
  • Direct Drive 70V / 100V — IDEEA Class D output stage drives Hi-Z constant-voltage speaker systems without external transformers.
  • Four Lake Processing Modules — Per-channel Classic/linear-phase/FIR crossover, parametric EQ, delay, and LimiterMax limiters for complete loudspeaker management.
  • 8x8 Dual-Redundant Dante with AES67 — Daisy-chain and redundant network topologies supported; configurable latency from 0.25ms.
  • Per-Channel Input Routing — Independent analog, AES3, or Dante input selection per channel with programmable analog failover.
  • 1U Space-Efficient Chassis — 483 x 44 x 425mm at 8.3 kg; half the rack height of the 2U D Series models for high-density installations.
  • Auto Power Down / Adaptive Rail Control — Configurable energy-saving modes reduce power consumption during periods of no signal.
  • BEL Mains Protection — Breaker Emulation Limiter with configurable 15A threshold and breaker profile prevents nuisance circuit breaker trips.
  • Third-Party Control Integration — Q-Sys, MediaMatrix, and other control systems via UDP Ethernet; Lake Controller for DSP configuration.
  • Voice Alarm Compatible — On-board load monitoring, system surveillance, and redundant input support for PA/VA system design.

Typical Applications

  • Boardroom
  • Conference room
  • All-hands room
  • Training room
  • Multi-purpose room

Frequently Asked Questions

Q: Is the D 40:4L part of the D Series Lake platform?

A: Yes. The D 40:4L is a full D Series Lake model and shares the same Lake processing architecture, Dante networking, and RPM power management found on the D 80:4L, D 120:4L, and D 200:4L. The primary differences are power output and the IDEEA Class D output stage (versus Class-TD on the higher models), which includes direct drive Hi-Z capability.

Q: Do I need external transformers for 70V or 100V speaker systems?

A: No. The D 40:4L's IDEEA Class D output stage drives 70V and 100V constant-voltage speaker systems directly, without external line transformers. This simplifies installation and reduces equipment cost in distributed audio systems.

Q: How does RPM benefit system design on the D 40:4L?

A: RPM allows the full 4,000W to be distributed unevenly across channels based on actual zone requirements. A system with one demanding zone and three lighter zones can direct more power to the demanding zone without purchasing a higher-power amplifier, reducing equipment cost and rack space.

Q: Can I control the D 40:4L from a Crestron or Q-Sys processor?

A: The D Series Lake platform integrates with Q-Sys and MediaMatrix via UDP Ethernet protocol. Crestron integration is available through third-party middleware or via Dante interoperability. Lake Controller handles DSP programming and device configuration.

Q: What is the Auto Power Down feature on the D 40:4L?

A: Auto Power Down places the amplifier in a low-power standby state after a configurable period of no signal. Adaptive Rail Control adjusts the internal power supply rail voltage dynamically based on output demand, both contributing to energy savings in installations with variable operating schedules.

Q: What warranty and support are available for the D 40:4L?

A: Lab Gruppen D Series products carry the manufacturer's standard warranty. Creation Networks provides pre-sales support for product specification and system design consultation, and can assist with connecting customers to authorized Lab Gruppen service resources.
