Product Overview

The Kramer VS-211H2 is a 2×1 automatic standby switcher for 4K@60Hz (4:4:4) HDMI 2.0 signals with HDCP 2.2 compliance, designed for conference rooms, boardrooms, and huddle spaces where two HDMI sources need to automatically route to a single display based on signal presence. AV integrators and IT managers deploy the VS-211H2 where a presenter laptop and a permanent installed source — such as a video conferencing codec, media player, or digital signage system — share one display, and the switcher must automatically select the active source without user intervention. Priority and last-connected switching modes cover the two most common deployment scenarios, and actual video output detection (rather than just 5V presence) provides more reliable switching behavior and allows the display to enter sleep mode when no active source is connected. Compact TOOLS form factor allows surface or under-table installation with the optional RK-3T rack adapter for 1U mounting.

Key Features

  • 2×1 4K@60Hz (4:4:4) Auto-Switching — Automatically selects between two HDMI 2.0 sources based on active video detection.
  • HDCP 2.2 and HDMI 2.0 Compliant — Supports 4K HDR, deep color, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, and 3D per HDMI 2.0 specification.
  • Actual Video Output Detection — Detects live video signal rather than just 5V presence for more reliable switching and display sleep support.
  • Priority and Last-Connected Modes — Configurable via DIP switches for the two most common BYOD switching scenarios.
  • 5V Output Shutdown — Switches off 5V output when no active inputs are detected, allowing the display to sleep and conserving power.
  • Kramer Equalization and re-Klocking — Rebuilds signal integrity on the output for reliable cable performance.
  • Contact Closure Remote Control — Remote input selection via contact closure for table button panel integration.
  • TOOLS Form Factor — Compact desktop unit; optional RK-3T rack adapter for 1U installation.

Typical Applications

  • Conference room dual-source HDMI auto-switching to single display
  • Boardroom presenter and codec source sharing to one display
  • Huddle room BYOD + installed source auto-switching
  • Digital signage primary/backup source automatic failover
  • University classroom laptop and installed PC auto-switching

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between priority and last-connected switching?

In priority mode, the VS-211H2 always routes the higher-priority input (Input 1) when it is active, regardless of which input was connected most recently. In last-connected mode, it routes whichever input was most recently connected with an active signal. Both modes are configured via the DIP switches on the unit.

Does the VS-211H2 support HDCP 2.2 protected content?

Yes. The VS-211H2 is HDCP 2.2 compliant on both inputs and the output, supporting 4K protected content from streaming devices, Blu-ray players, and other HDCP 2.2 sources. Note: it does not support conversion from HDCP 2.2 to HDCP 1.4 — both source and display must support HDCP 2.2 for protected content to pass.

Can the VS-211H2 be controlled via RS-232 or a room control system?

The VS-211H2 uses DIP switches and contact closure for switching control. It does not include RS-232 or Ethernet control ports. For a 2×1 auto-switcher with full RS-232 and Ethernet control, see the Kramer VS-211H2 or DIP-20 series at https://creationnetworks.net.

What happens to the display when no source is active?

When no active HDMI signal is detected on either input, the VS-211H2 switches off the 5V output, which allows HDMI-CEC-enabled displays to detect the signal loss and enter sleep or standby mode, conserving power in unoccupied rooms.
