Product Overview
The Kramer DIP-31 is a multi-format 3-input HDMI/VGA auto-switching scaler with Maestro room automation, designed for conference rooms and presentation spaces where automatic display control on source connect and disconnect is required alongside 4K@60Hz (4:2:0) signal scaling. Unlike the DIP-20, the DIP-31 outputs HDMI locally rather than extending over HDBaseT — making it the right choice when the display is co-located with the switcher, or when a downstream HDBaseT transmitter handles the extension separately. AV integrators deploy the DIP-31 in BYOD conference rooms, huddle rooms, and executive offices where priority or last-connected auto-switching between HDMI and VGA laptops, along with Maestro-driven display power control, eliminates the need for manual AV system operation by end users. Kramer Protocol 3000 over Ethernet and RS-232 provides full integration with room control systems for more advanced automation scenarios.
Product Description
The DIP-31 accepts two HDMI inputs and one VGA input with a 3.5mm analog audio input, covering the full range of laptop and presentation device connectivity in a modern conference room. Maestro automation powers the display on when a source connects and powers it off after a configurable idle period when all sources disconnect — requiring zero end-user AV interaction for standard meeting use. The priority and last-connected switching modes handle multi-presenter scenarios: the unit automatically routes the active or most recently connected source to the output, with manual override available via front panel button or remote contact closure switches. Analog audio from the 3.5mm input is embedded into the HDMI output stream or output separately via the 3.5mm audio output connector. I-EDIDPro Intelligent EDID Processing ensures stable EDID negotiation between sources and the connected display, with EDID lock for consistent resolution output across multiple sessions. RS-232 pass-through allows control of a projector or display directly from the DIP-31's data port for installations where direct serial display control is needed alongside Maestro automation.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is the difference between DIP-31 and DIP-20?
The DIP-20 includes an extended-reach HDBaseT output with PoE for powering a remote display receiver, suited to installations where the display is far from the switcher. The DIP-31 outputs HDMI locally for co-located display connections and adds VGA input. Choose DIP-20 for rooms requiring HDBaseT extension; DIP-31 for rooms where the display is nearby or a separate extender handles the cable run.
Does the DIP-31 work with HDBaseT receivers?
The DIP-31 outputs HDMI — it does not have a native HDBaseT output. To extend the DIP-31's output to a remote display, connect the HDMI output to a separate HDBaseT transmitter such as the Kramer PT-580T or TP-580T.
How does Maestro automation power on a display?
Maestro uses the RS-232 data port or IR emitter to send display power-on and input select commands when a source is detected. The display must support RS-232 or IR control for Maestro to operate it. The Maestro configuration is set via the embedded web pages over Ethernet.
Can the DIP-31 be controlled from a Crestron or AMX system?
Yes. Kramer Protocol 3000 over RS-232 and Ethernet is compatible with Crestron, AMX, Extron, and other third-party control systems for full remote control of input selection, volume, and automation settings.
